View Full Version : GW Begins the "Great Smelt"

Word today is that truckloads containing literally metric tons of metal miniatures have pulled away from GW HQ, headed for a date with a furnace. The entire stock is to be smelted down and sold off on the metals markets.

Look for any remaining stocks of metal models to disappear shortly from the website.

GW's era of metal miniatures is over.

Depending how much they have it could produce quite a yeild for them financially, while free-ing up storage.

I still hate finecast, (when i'm making a new army I always do test paints on metal models because they can be stripped perfectly.) But my worry is about the things that I thought they still don't have finecast of like sisters?

Or is it I have just never seen a sister fincast in the "wild"?

So what will become of all the Adepta Sororitas Miniatures?

and yet they are selling the metal bugmans models again in the bar instead of finecast.

maybe just to get rid of them though .

The full rumor is that they will also be phasing out finecast and replacing it with plastic.

I wonder if it's just odd-bits that didn't make whole kits and/or the specialist games stuff.

I really hope this rumor will be true. That would make me so happy.

There are still metal miniatures for sale on the GW website, so I wouldn't think they are melting the entire stock quite yet.

Now there is something i can get behind! Proud to say i have never owned a finecast model and since the dwarves look to mostly free of it i am happy.

Seems stupid to me. Just make a clearance section on the website and sell stuff 75% off. They would make more than selling it for scrap...

Pressumably they considered the cost implications of disposal vs sale and thought that disposal was more appropriate.

Maybe not, since you still have to pay to have people organize and ship the stuff. It can be funny what makes the most economic sense, sometimes.

For those panicing, it was my semi-informed understanding that while they are culling the back-stock they will continue to make things on demand.

new paints have minimal lead, new minis have 0 lead. Finecast on its way out. 40k OK for sale in non-hobbygame stores...

I was under the impression they sold off all of the metal casting equipment, so they were relying on existing stocks.

Anyway, I'm not sure what's happening, my order for metals is still pending but others have seen them progress. So I'm assuming they've only sold off some of the stock so far (reports are that it's 3 trucks).
