Afternoon all.
So. Strongholds. They're fun and cool and wizard and that. I for one love 'em.
But for the scratchbuilder, anyone know if there's a reliable 'size guide' for the existing kits? Things like a net of their foot print, and highest point type dimensions?

I've just been through the book and there's no guidelines for what size buildings are, particularly for the Void Shield and Promethium Relays that don't have models out yet.
I'd suggest getting a tape measure and making notes next time you're in a Games Workshop, unless somebody on here already has the models and can do that for you.
I've got two Void Shield Generators as Works in Progress at the moment.
Their Terrain Type Description is as follows...
"Impassable Building with Battlements."
Here's a photo of one with Illic Nightspear on the Battlements for scale purposes.
The footprint of my Building is 12" long + 4" Generator, 10" wide and about 5" high.
The Battlements are 5" x 4".
I bought them separately, the Generator is Micro Arts and the Building is Wargame Model Mods.
Whilst the Building is listed to buy as a Barracks, it absolutely 100% fits the bill as a Turbine Housing for the Generator.
6930
Irrespective of whether I use them as Fortifications or not, they will look phenomenal an the Battlefield even just as Terrain.

It is for those very purposes I'm thinking of getting a set of agreed dimensions. That way scratch builders and convertors know roughly how stonking the building needs to be, and prevents people getting the potential arse because it's smallerer/biggerer.

Part of the issue is while the BRB does give guidleines for Small/Medium/Large Buildings the rules in Stronghold Assault for the buildings without models are defined in the Void Shield Generators case as Impassable w/ Battlements which carries no obvious size limitations beyond providing for battlements to stand on without access points, considering large buildings are no larger than 12" x 12" I wouldn't permit anything larger for a stronghold selection and honestly would probably try to limit them to 6" x 6" to reflect the buildings AV12 nature with my gaming group.

Firstly, the Void Shield Generator is Av 13 not Av 12.
It's the Shields that are Av 12.
Secondly, its size can work in one of two ways.
According to the Rulebook you place Fortifications, then place Terrain.
If it were Small 6" x 6" you would be able to Deploy it and then completely hide it with Terrain giving little to no chance of Line of Sight to it, let alone any shots destroying it until later in the game when your opponent is in your Deployment Zone.
If it is Large 12" x 12" there is little to no chance of hiding it.
Thirdly, something to bear in mind is that it is putting out a bigger Void Shield with a significantly larger footprint than a Warhound Titan and we already know how big a Warhound Titan is.
Fourthly, Rule of Cool.
If it looks like what it's intended to be and is well modelled, then that's what it is.
Lastly, and most importantly, Forging The Narrative.
Whilst I can't speak for other people's gaming groups, I know that the reaction in mine when I posted pictures of my WIP was unanimously...
"Star Wars Battle of Hoth! When can we play?..."

I love the way your void shield generator looks Pssyche. I do think it's a little on the big side though. All I'm basing that on the only other impassable building in the book, the Vengeance Weapon Battery, granted it doesn't have battlements but I think the general size would be about the same.
Yours looks bad *** though and I don't think I'd complain if someone put that done on the table across from me.

I don't see the problem, a large building, the Fortress of Redemption is similarly sized to that. Pssyche, 'rule of cool' certainly stacks up on that one mate, awesome.

The fortress of Redemption is a multpart building in it's description of building type, the void shield generator is not.
