Hey Everyone,

I am new to the community but I have been a huge fan of the lore of the Death Guard, especially before they completely fell to papa Nurgle. Anyway, I have started painting up some Heresy Era Death Guard to represent the beginnings of corruption. I have been collecting/ building things up for the past year.

I am not a great painter but I am digging it so far! Let me know what you all think and feedback would be great

I think they could use a little more highlighting (or maybe it's just the photographs) but they're looking really nice!

First off welcome to the mad house!

Your figures are looking quite good for a "Not A Great Painter", I like the markings on the scythe, looking forward to seeing them finished.

^^ I agree they would benefit from another highlight, but for a "not a great painter" I agree with Darren that these are looking pretty good!

How would you highlight, like what color do you think? Something like just a white?

Here are some more of my troops!

The one is the back shot of my standard troops. I got the idea from the Book I Betrayal picture. The two with power weapons are currently acting as sergeants.

Okay Next up are some veterans. I decided to paint them with the Dusk Raider's color scheme. They are equipped with a melta and a power weapon on the sergeant.

Enjoy!

Alright what is next?

How bout some contemptor dreadnoughts? I magnetized the arms at the mid joint so that I could swap the weapon load outs. Right now I have 2 powerfists, autocannon, and multimelta to equip them with. I also used a lot of the corrosion for the iron parts of the dreadnought along with the rust and oxidation effects (possibly a little overboard).

I will try to post the remainder of my army tonight, as well as some stuff I am currently working on.

Here are a Legion champion and master of the signal, along with an apothecary.

Next up is the Legion Praetor in Terminator armor, I gave him a power scythe to stick to the theme of the army. Along with Typhus painted up in some pre-heresy colors.

Here comes the corruption!! Some plague marines that I am using as just troops.

Next up I got a Forgeworld Death Guard Dreadnought, and Morty. He is not from the GW line but I really like the model (until Forgeworld gets around to making one). Finally a shot of just all the models hanging out, because why not?

I am currently working on some armor for my army. I am painting up a predator, spartan and achilles land raider.

That's all for tonight.

I'm working on a "35k Deathguard" which I guess is very similar to what you are doing here. It's a deathguard colour scheme but after the heresy so theres more corruption.

This is my Typhus, just the white base colour at the moment:

It's great to see someone doing a similar idea, maybe I can steal some ideas or inspiration :D

I'd be interested to know how you made the Mortarion?

Hey Chanderzz,

I am digging the Typhus base coat and l like the brown color you are using on him too. I would be happy to swap some ideas!

As far as Mortarion, I wanted to get a model to represent him and I cannot sculpt or anything so I browsed the interwebs and found a seller called Hitechminatures. They have some nice models that can be used as alternates. I bought the Arch Father Mortimer to use as Mortarion.

I get this base coat style with the following techniques:
-Prime white
-Wash the whole model with athonian camoshade
-dry brush with usbati bone
-Then I use medium to water down skull white and then streak the plates with it
-Using death world green I stipple the areas I want wear
-Stipple the same areas again with Leadbelcher
-Wash the areas with Typhus Corrosion
-Then finally stipple with Ryza Rust

It's epically labour intensive and I've currently only done it on 2 models I will be trying it soon to batch paint some plague marines.

Wow that is labor intensive, I would love to see a final result picture on your troops!

Wow That looks great! I am going to have to try that technique, I just got some cataphractii terminators so I will paint those up soon!

Thanks for sharing man!

Hello fellow devotees to the dark gods

I have been hard at work, both doing hw and painting up this lovely Spartan tank. However when I was constructing it I found that the turrets did not fit over the quadlascannons, so I have to wait till forgeworld sends me a pair. Anyway, I have a few detailing things to do, but I am pretty much finished, I may magnetize the lascannons on as I heard that it will help to maneuver them. It was a bit of a pain to build and I had a few things not line up, most noticeable is the track/ tread on the one side, I am not sure how to correct that.

As always comments welcome!

Hey Everyone! An update, after a long semester of school and summer class I finally got the itch to get out the paint brush and wrap up some more Death Guard.

Finished up my previously posted tanks, and started a squad of terminators. Testing out a brighter color for the armor, but have yet to highlight it, what you see is a base coat with wash. Still not sure how I am going to paint up the base yet.

Question: Anyone know a good way to strip the paint off of plastic models?

I finished the Terminators and decided to do a Lava base. Never done that before but I think it turned out well! Unfortunately that is all the minis I have for this army :( Guess I need to order more!

Feedback welcome!

Ezekial, check this thread out, very helpful

Re-priming over painted miniatures possible (http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?39350-Re-priming-over-painted-miniatures-possible)

best advice given ever regarding the subject, I used this method on my own figures.

So my brother and I played a little game, when my 30k Death guard happened upon a splinter tyranid fleet. I lost the battle but we had a great fight! here is a epic duel that lasted 2 turns before my centurion went down.

Hello fellow 30K enthusiasts

I have a bit of an update! I commissioned a painting company to paint Mortarion and Typhoon up to match my color scheme and got an email today saying they were completed!!! I will post some pictures as soon as I get them. Stay tuned!

Ok so I had Den of Imagination paint these for me. I do not have them yet but I do have some pictures. Personally this is exactly what I asked them to do and I am very pleased. This is also my first time hiring someone to paint something for me and I thought overall the experience was great; they kept in contact with me, used some samples I sent them, kept within my budget, and most importantly did some great work.

Here is their website http://www.denofimagination.com

Hi Everyone!

So Mortarion and Typhoon arrived today from the wonderful folks at Den of Imagination all the way from Poland. Firstly, this has been my first experience with using a painting service of any kind, and the process was easy. Den of Imagination handled everything in a professional manner and the final product is amazing. Towards the beginning of the process they asked me to send a picture of what I would like and I provided them with a few marines I have painted up and I have to tell you that Mortarion and Typhoon match my army PERFECTLY. It really is amazing. Also, I live in the US so I was worried about shipping my guys across continents but they packed it so well that nothing was broke or moved. They even threw in some dice!

Enough of my praise about the awesomeness that is Den of Imagination, I promised some pictures of my legion reunited with their Primarch. After much fanfare, donuts, coffee, and general celebrations I present Mortarion and Typhoon!
(Sorry about the quality I took the pictures right before heading off to class, I can post up better ones if anyone would like later.)

Hi All!

I have been lurking in the shadows of the warp these past few months but good news! I recently ordered some grave wardens to add to my collection. I have a question, I want to make my color scheme a little different by whitening it however I am not great at mixing paints, any suggestions? I currently use Ushabti bone, and I'm not sure how to make it lighter other than using white scar white. Also anyone have any idea how to make little chips or scratches, like worn.

I look forward to your suggestions! Thanks for the help!

Kirsten

not sure about mixing paints, but as for chips I tend to find the best way is to do a little spot of black, then go over it with a silver, leaving a little black round the edges

Lord Ezekial

Thanks Kirsten! I will try this out

Kirsten

it is something I read in an Eavy Metal article many years ago, I found it works quite well personally. works best if done in places where you would imagine chips to occur, raised edges, corners, front armour, that kind of thing

Hi everyone quick update!

Finally got my Grave Wardens!! and just base coated them. Now I am on a quest for some off white color that is not quite as creamy as my previous death guard paint. Any suggestions welcome!

I also am making up some terrain that I got during the holiday and a vindicator, just because more Daaka....

Hello all!

I have just finished up all my finals and I finally have time to get some hobby work done. I purchased 10 grave wardens and got them base coated and Have been playing with some new color schemes/ paint to try and get a whiter color as opposed to the creme color that was on my troops. Here is a test model I have been working on. I also went back and covered the gold in a thin layer of bronze. Now I am going to try my hand at weathering the model a bit but this is something I am terrible at let me know what you think and as always feedback is appreciated!

I knew a guy who did his battle damage by just straight-up painting a dark metal layer underneath his actual colours. It actually worked pretty well on tanks, they gathered it naturally.
