On the killing ground of Isstvan III, there were World Eaters on either side of the conflict who succumbed utterly, devolving into mindless frenzied savages that could not be controlled. Rather than ‘putting down’ such individuals as had happened in the past, the Apothecaries had the mad subdued and chained for a far darker fate.

The Techmarines made customised Terminator suits from recovered wargear for them, fashioning them as both armour and as confinement; mechanised prison cells that could be immobilised with a remote signal. Hung in chains in the holds of the World Eaters warships, foaming and screaming in impotent rage, the Red Butchers were born.

The Red Butchers are a five man multi-part resin kit equipped with Cataphractii pattern Terminator armour and twin power axes. The squad leader, known as The Devoured, also comes with optional chainfists. These models, designed by Alfonso Giraldes are available to pre-order now and will be despatched from January 31st

You know you're a mental case when the World Eaters put you in a box for safe keeping!

Why can't Forge World paint their models nicely?

I dunno.

Maybe all the Forgeworld painters are in fact English Yeoman captured by the French during the Hundred Years War, and have had their index and middle fingers removed as punishment?

This would make sense...

Great models but the background for them is better still. Love 'em!

I wouldn't object to those being 'counts as' Mutilators.

Love the fluff and the models, but the paintjob... for some reason the word that springs to mind is festive.

Why can't Forge World paint their models nicely?

Well for starters they are not painted by anyone from 'eavy Metal, then there's the fact that a lot of the time they are painted for someone's army in Forge World/painted by a staff member.

Oh and they aren't that bad.

It's supposed to be advertising their models, why are they not painted the best that they could be?

One one hand I think it is nice that FW show models with a more achievable paintjob for most people than the Eavy Metal team but on the other hand it does make the models look a bit shabby sometimes.

Good point.

I also think there's not a consistent painting level amongst their painted models, some of them are toasted mazeballs, and some of them are just meh.

I would say that the style of painting that you see from Forge World differs from that of the 'Eavy Metal team by being a bit grittier. I tend to think this ties in well with the more grown up tone of their product.

I like them, but the fluff ? I'm not sure. Mad men who are chained up inside their suits. I don't know but I've never considered an Astartes the kind of being able to be restrained by chains. Maybe it's a combo of the deactivated armour. The other bit about the squad leader. Again why would 5 nut job space marines even have a squad leader ? The 1st part of the fluff makes these guys sound like raving maniacs hell bent on death and destruction. I'm not sure they could be led or one could lead them. Also it does remind me of the blood angels death company a bit too. I love the models though, I prefer the helmets to the bare heads.

Depends on the size of the chains?

Maybe he's not the leader, so much as the most experienced maniac? A better fighter, but not better Leadership. They're probably all Fearless anyway.

Am I the only one who's a bit over FW releasing custom Terminators for each Legion? Couldn't just one Legion have a unique troop type that isn't Terminators?

I had been thinking (hope maybe) that the next BA codex will see DC Terminators. How cool would that be :D

I'm surprised they weren't painted in red. I thought given the name that might have been a possibility. Red Butchers does sound better than blue and white butchers though.

I get the feeling that the World Eaters didn't exactly repaint their armour..

I have a feeling that this would be unlikely, as you wouldn't want to risk a nearly irreplaceable suit of terminator armour on a trooper that is expected to end up dying right in the middle of enemy lines. still, with the way GW has been going lately, you never know.

Personally, I'd like to see Devastator terminators in C:SM. Why should Tacticals and Assault guys have all the fun.
