This army won best painted at the Alamo 40K Indy GT in 2012, and was 3rd in Player’s choice. It won the Armies on Parade, Parade Day Qualifier at the Market at Town Center GW store in Sugarland Texas, and was displayed at Games Day 2012 in Chicago. A link showing it on display at Games Day is below. You need to scroll to the bottom of the page, click to enlarge the last set of photos, and scroll to photo number 5 of 8 to see the Ultramarines on display at the AoP competition. To my knowledge, it is the only army to make GW’s “What’s New Today” page for Games Day 2012 other than the AoP winner shown the same day.

The point total listed of 3450 is bare bones. I have played the army near 4,000 points by upgrading Librarians to mastery level 2, making the dreadnought venerable, etc. It is a large army that performs well with the rules in the current edition and codex. All models were pinned together where needed for strength. Where applicable, all models are metal. There is NO Finecast in this army! The models were airbrushed with the Zenithal highlighting technique. Weapons are painted red in homage to the “old school” Second edition Ultramarines from the mid 1990’s and that “red era” of painting. All models have been sprayed with matte sealer for game play. The models are painted to be from the 5th, 1st, and 10th (Scout) companies of the Ultramarines and all models have Legion, and squad markings hand painted on them. The scouts have the legion number on their left shoulder and the squad/company number on their right shoulder. Veterans all have white helmets.
All 3 tactical squads are on “running” assault style legs to appear as if charging into battle. The tactical squads are the 1st, 3rd, and 5th squads and are color coded. Colors for the 1st, 3rd, and 5th companies are white, red, and black respectively, and the sergeant’s back banners carry this color coding to the squad level. Both Devastator squads are on kneeling legs to look as if they’re holding a position and supporting heavy weapons. The terminators all have Forge World shoulder pads. The dreadnought has FW icons. The camo cloaks on the scout snipers have been painted in a Vietnam era tiger stripe camo pattern. The Sternguard Veterans are modeled and painted as Inquisitorial Death Watch with sculpted shoulder pads (some sculpted by me) and FW brass etch on all their backpacks. One Librarian is also a Death Watch Marine. Their transport is a drop pod, with Inqusitorial icons on the doors and FW brass etch icons inside. There is also object source lighting painted on the interior of the drop pod.

I chatted with Phil Kelly of the GW game development team while at Games Day 2012. I told him I was competing in Golden Demon and Armies on Parade. He asked which army was mine in the AoP competition. I told him the Ultramarines on the board with the ruins and the columns. His eyes got big, he stood up, and held out his hand offering his congratulations and saying, “…you totally nailed the look of the Ultramarines with that display. Great work!” He asked what the Latin means on the display. I told him it means, “First among equals.” He smiled and said, “Nice!”

I’m asking $2500 for the army which will include the display board AND the recipe for how they were painted! Any competent painter should be able to expand the army with this painting breakdown! Sale price does not include shipping. That price works out to $22.12 per model across the board, including vehicles: not factoring in the conversions, Forge World bits, or sculpted shoulder pads. It also doesn’t factor in the display board or the knowledge of how they were painted. If someone is within reasonable driving distance I'll deliver or meet you.

Like my other current for sale listing I know this is out of most folks price range. This is not your average army. It is painted well above average and I don't need to sell it. It will just make some things easier if I do. Looking for the gamers who like well painted armies and can afford them. Thanks for looking.

Here are a few photos of the models. All others are painted to a comparable standard. PM me if you want more photos; I can only attach 5 to the listing.
