Can imperial guardman have 20 models in 1 unit?

Just quick question, says 9 guardsman 1 sergeant for 50 points, is it possible to add more models than the 10 like most units?

Conscripts can, Guardsmen can't.

Yep. Or potentially combine up to five squads.


From memory (can't be arsed to grab my book), each Platoon can form a single Blob Squad, but it doesn't need to combine all it's squads.

So if you have the full platoon of 5 Infantry Squads, you could amalgamate 2, 3, 4 or 5 into a blob, with the rest remaining as individual squads within the platoon.

And if you're combining squads it works best if you have the points to put a Commissar in one of the squads. That way the entire combined squad can use his Leadership 10 and the Sergeants can handle any Challenges you don't want him involved in.

Maximum amount you could put into a single unit, from just the IG book with no ICs from allied detachments, is 57 models. Fifty from a blob infantry squad, 5 from commissars upgraded into each of those infantry squads, and then two HQ ICs. Of course, I would never put any HQs into such a squad unless they are really needing some delegated wounds.

Or Special Weapon Squads. Or Heavy Weapon Squads (anyone else miss Heavy Weapon Platoons?). Or Conscript Squads (who can get to 50 on their own).
