I have recently finished my Red Scorpions Venerable Siege Dreadnought (Forge World model). I can say that I am more than satisfied with the results. For me this was a test paint scheme, as I have never painted Red Scorpions before. I think I nailed the technique on this one in all of its simplicity (though this model can surely use more freehand applications and some extra details).

This is a beautiful Venerable Dreadnought model made by Forge World. I fell in love with it ever since I saw it in the Siege of Vraks books for the first time. So, why a Red Scorpions Dread - you will probably ask. Well, I am a big fan of Forge World Space Marines (that means the Raptors and the Red Scorpions). I think that they are more unique and have more character. I think that both are "cool" additions to my SM army, which is based mainly on Imperial Fists.

As you can see, I used my favorite techniques of painting gritty metallic areas. As always, everything was undercoated black and then drybrushed with Boltgun Metal, following by little highlights of Chainmail. Then, I washed everything with Badab Black. I let it dry, and then drybrushed the dirtiest areas with Brown Oil Paint (Abteilung Wash Brown, but any Umber color will do the job). If you decide to use this technique, make sure to do it very carefully and avoid covering large areas with the oil paint (also, keep in mind that oil paints take much more time to dry).
Once the oil paint was relatively dry (about 3/4 hours later), I went to some areas and added little highlights with Chainmail. Finally, I washed and glazed the metallic areas with a special home made wash - 30% Brown Ink, 30% Black Ink, 40% Water. This gave my metal a very "gritty" or "dirty" tone. Voila...

The heated exhaust pipes were done with Boltgun Metal, followed by my home made Brown/Black Wash. I did some finishing touches with a mix of a reddish Burnt Sienna Rembrandt Oil Paint and some Abteilung Shadow Brown. This gave the exhaust pipes a very deteriorated feel.
The flamer was done the same way as the flamers on my Imperial Fists Land Raider Redeemer. If you forgot - here is the technique:
Basecoat black, then drybrush Tin Bitz, followed by Boltgun Metal. Then drybrush either Shadow Brown or Burnt Umber oil paint onto the surface. Everything was washed by Brown Ink. The heated flamer was then drybrushed with Mithril Silver and washed with Brown Ink. Then, it was washed with Leviathan Purple and some Brown to show discoloration from the heat.
This is pretty much identical to the technique explained in the Forge World Master Class Book.
I would also like to note - that the base color of the Dreadnough is Vallejo Model Color German Grey (and the Highlights were done with Citadel Foundation Adeptus Battlegrey).
I would like to show off some shots of my Space Marines army (the finished units, of course). I am hoping that the full army will be ready for action in about 3 months or so.

I am currently working on expanding my Space Marines and finishing off some units that have been just basecoated so far. I am looking forward to hearing what you guys think about my Dreadnought. Any comments and critique will be more than welcome!
I am trying to stay motivated (which is not an easy task) because I am constantly thinking about going back to my Chaos roots and doing a Forge World Nurgle based Servants of Decay army. But, I know that I have to finish my Space Marines first. I have 1 Drop Pod, 10 Marines, 5 more Sternguard Veterans and 5 regular Terminators to go. I will probably need one more Rhino and a Vindicator though.
I uploaded from Picasa (which I normally never use to post on forums... ) Something went wrong. I am sorry for that guys, so you will just have to follow the links, except for the first picture that I just uploaded to imageshack. You can also go to my Blog (the Time of Ending one in my signature) to see full shots.
