Hey guys! So in a online game I used to play back in the day people did something called a "life thread" where you'd post screenshots of your levels in-game and other things and even posting your ideas and seeing peoples opinions/tips!

I will be most likely posting here multiple times daily and uploading pictures every day or two :)

So i figured i'd make a similar thing here :) to break it down:

Purpose of this thread: To get some feedback on my painting, or motivation also of course :)
About Me: I just got back into warhammer after not playing since I was 13 (9 years ago) and I'm getting into my first real army! I'm very new to painting so they will be not the best ;). Before I played tau but only had maybe 300 points of models, and never knew anyone to play against, but recently (past week!) I found out 6 of my rugby buddies all play! So i'm getting back into it and making an imperial guard army (aiming for 1500~ points)
What do I have so far:
(only the battleforce thus far, looking to buy models off ebay or craigslist for cheaper, GW is expensive!)
Command HQ
Armored Sentinel
20 Cadian Shocktroopers
Heavy Weapons Team

Thanks guys! I appreciate any tips/tricks you guys got! As I am not too experienced with painting yet :)

Color Scheme:
Black
a mix of a light blue, some black and metal paints to make a blueish metal look
some white to do symbols on the armors
metal paint color for tips of guns and some symbols
and cadian skin color for the skin :)

This guy is done, he's a test model before I do the other 19, was hoping for some feedback :)

There is actually no blue on the helmet part, thats steel color but the camera made it blue somehow hehe

1. I primed him black
2. I painted his weapon with the blueish metal color
3. I painted the cloth with a grey with a super tiny pinch of blue
4. I washed it with a 20% lighter grey
5. Washed it again with a 60% lighter grey (roughly 60% of course)
6. Painted metal on some of the weapons and helmet/symbols
7. painted face with a skin color
8. added a bit of lighter skin color to make some depth to the face :)

My Sentinel (I primed in black then kinda dry brushed on the silver so it looks still very metal with some black below if you know what I mean) Then i painted the eagle symbol steel color, This guy is only like 20% done though.

Your IG uniform looks good, I like how it has a dappled appearance through your colour scheme, though based on your description I'll assume that it's the light giving that effect from the paint mix you used.

Still looks good though!

Much appreciation for your comment above! :) Finished painting all the uniforms now on all of them, will finish up the rest tomorrow and post more pictures <3

Knighter this looks like it could be interesting. A couple of things that may be useful. Firstly think about pacing your models down on an easier to see white background for photography - some people just bend a sheet of paper as an impromptu photo box. That also means you can use both hands on the camera to eliminate focus wobble.

Second, if you serve all those posts and then fill them up with photos, people will be potentially one page or more down the thread, unable to comment on the picture they want to! Hope this helps,

....I'm going to add some rocks to the base (Anyone got tips on how to make cheap but cool rocks?)....

do you have an easisly accessible river or beach near you? if so then you don't need to make or buy any, jut use the real thing, plenty of other gamers and modellers have...

Just make sure whatever you do take is throughly washed off with disinfenctant before you use it....

And as for gluing you'll need a Hot Glue Gun or super strong super glue.

You have the benefit of being neat! I would consider a wash - possibly nuln oil - to add some depth to the trousers/sleeves in light grey - and also possibly the flesh. When painting the number 4, try doing it in 3 separate straight line strokes, to avoid the curvy brush look. I'd also at the prep stage, do a bit of mould line removal with a knife or file. I like where you're going though, so keep it up!

Really good looking models there :) As you have asked for some advice I would give you these snippets of wisdom.

1. A good wash over your base paint, followed by a layer paint will add depth to your colours. If in doubt use nuln oil (black).
2. I find that if you base the model with flock, sand, gravel etc... just after you assemble it you can spray it with your base coat and paint over it. Painting the base will always look better than using the natural basing product as supplied without it being painted.
3. For detail work on any model, make sure you use a smaller brush. A standard brush is good for getting base colours on your model, but once you have gotten to the "layer paint" stage and you are selectively applying paint I find the smaller the brush the better.

I hope this helps, and I look forward to seeing more of your models :)

one thing i will add as your paint jobs pritty good, once you have your guys built base in sand before undercoating it creates a better look

Sorry what exactly do you mean? I based in fake grass, do you mean you think sand looks better than grass? or do you mean something else?

I mean you should do a layer of sand under it so that it looks like your guys are standing on ground rather then a very flat surface with a bit of green over the top

Painted some necron stuff and finished my imperial guard lot, However just bought $850 worth of IG stuff for $200 from someone but its painted, so I will probably look at some tutorials on how to strip paint best, (if anyone has good ideas state them here)

Will upload the necron pics soon :D

Here in the UK we have a disinfectant called Detol, I didn't belive anyone when they said it strips paint after about 48 hours of soaking your figures in it, but it did work and I was humbled, there is a similar product in the USA, I'll dig out the thread that talkked about it for you.

Lost track of it! Thanks :D

No problems, good luck stripping $800 worth of IG, I imagine that is an awfull lot of footsloggers and treads....

You might need a watertight crate to put it all in along with the stripper!
