well i have ultramarines and working on some space wolves i just got from a battle force and i have 2 captains (1 i built the other i got out of the assualt of black reach) and then on top of the i have sicarius, marneus,a chaqplain, and a librarian too so i have way too many HQ i'm thinking of taking my assualt of black reach captain and use him for another chapter or maybe even death guard pre heresy (boy do i love them) really all options are open but they must be loyal so if you say like emperors children then make sure you say pre heresy please but i should still get it if you don't really
i'm looking at any loyal legion that was split up into chapters and death guard but i'm open to sugestions

If they have to be Codex then (Crimson or Imperial)Fists or Raven Guard 'cause they have great characters, and simple yet very nice scheme. Although Imperial Fist yellow is always a challenge to master.
If they can be other then BT, They have an awesome yet simple colour scheme, kick *** fluff and rules.

Grey Knights! WHOOT! :D
Of course, that requires a lot of conversions...
Go for Death Guard if you like them so much. Unless another chapter catches your fancy. Just check out paint schemes and fluff for various ones.

I'd also put in my vote for Grey Knights despite the fact that you'd have to convert them so much :P

Read the stories of them and which ever one you think is coolest the go for them. I think if I were to build a C:SM army I'd invent a new colour scheme and found my own chapter, or use one of the more obscure colour schemes.

well pre heresy is a big money saver as it permits to play two rule sets
the pre heresy world eaters or luna wolves are very uncommon if you like those colours go for it

Bright Talons!
Dark Angels done well always look really nice, there's nothing stopping you using Codex Space Marines to represent them on the tabletop either.
Or Iron Hands, that's a really nice modelling challenge and the only Iron Hands army I've ever played against looked amazingly good on the tabletop

It's got to be Space Wolves (http://space-wolves-grey.blogspot.com/). They're the only army that can give the new Tyranid swarm a sound thrasing in close combat. They're practically designed for killing Tyrgons.

Well, to be honest I would choose a Xenos force before another SM army, but the new Space Wolves do look incredibly tempting. In a few months the SW bandwagon will be over and those that stick with them will probably be looking pretty good on the table.

Well yeah, I'd say go for anything BUT an SM army to be honest, they tend to be bland and overdone. But he already has the models apparently so... yeah.

Well look at it this way. If you want unwavering support from GW and never have to wait for cool new models, play Space Marines. If you want a fast track to cynicism and douchebaggery play Dark Eldar. If you want to learn the immortal art of the nag and the whine play Eldar. If you like anime play Tau. If you like Football Firms and Vinnie Jones play Orks. If girls are your thing play SoB. If you want to make a statement about your amazing individuality and creativity and about how no one is really as willing to 'push the envelope' or 'go there' as you, play Chaos or FEMALE space marines. If you wish that someone would come out with a 40K level detail wargame for WWII play IG. It all about your individual tastes.

I see no reason to even remotely consider playing anything but the Space Wolves. The standard marines are crapola.

You could do Salamanders, or you could get a head start and do Blood Angels if you want to get away from C:SM.
Just my two cents

Marshal2Crusaders: I have nothing against those rare Marine players who are actually able to create interesting fluff, but locally they seem to be as few and far between as Dark Eldar players.

Nah, Chaos has got the whine part down. And the only Sisters player that I can think of that is also female is Melissia. All the female 40k players I've met in person played something else (eldar, slaanesh, 'nizs, space wolves, etc).

It is kind of hard to make interesting fluff with marines.

Although, if you think about it, they probably ARE designed for killing Trygons. ;)

So's my Exorcist. *hugs her three exorcist models* Or it might as well have been for how good it is at destroying them.
I know I might be a little biased here, but I would get started on Blood Angels. Come early next year you'll have a brand new shiny codex and plus, an army in Blood Red just looks great on the field.

well i already have a squad of the collector iron hands that a cousin who was from using them said i could use them that and a preadator along with a 3rd edition full size rule book:) but yeah i have the iron hands split between an assualt squad and a tactical/sternguard/legion of the damned squad what ever i need them for but usually they will be a stern guard squad :p

Check out the loyal forces from the BADAB WAR. There are some cool ideas, with room for intrepretation, you could use whatever codex you want really, but are basically C:SM.

Why, in the name of the Golden Throne, would you think I meant that half-arsed chapter by the same name?

HAHAHA; someone doesn't know you very well; either that or they don't know the WH codex that well.
I can see it now; the entire 'Order of our Martyrd Lady,' plus three marines in the corner (you know, from that confussed stage in your life; where you just wanted to fit in with all the other 40k players).
Even if you did have any marines hidden away in your shame-closet, you'd never hug them! If anything, you'd hang them off of your tanks and say that the dead heretics 'counts as' the loud-hailers upgrade.

*lol* No, I'd just sell them. Which I did, at one point I owned a Macragge set like many trying to start the hobby, but I sold it to a friend when I decided the fluff behind the two armies was kinda dull to me. (in fact the only thing I liked about Marines was that they're remarkably easy to paint :P)

I'm not that good with painting but the best I did lately was AobR Cappo. I did as a SW but I use characters so I use AoBR cpt. as Honor Guard/Wulf Guard.

Rainbow warriors?
Someone has to play them and at least you'd get lots of people asking what they are.

If you have extra captains just field them as kick-@ss sergeants. That's what I do. I have a habit of buying every special character or HQ model I see. When I deploy them on the table I just go, "Chaplain Xavier is playing the role of a sergeant today." I've never had any problems with it.

srry man i don't like the idea of nameing and or painting space marines in rainbow colors i fell like they should be skiping through a meadow of flowers instead of killing in the emporers name and also it's not a tough or cool names ive had my classes with really wimpy stupid names (green gummy bears, red skittles, freshmen fusion, sophmore squirles) some ones gunna die for the last one!!!!!:mad::mad:
the only cool one was black romans which was awsome!!! but that was about it
i prefer a name that strikes fear into the enemy/and or has meaning behind it

LOL, funny cause its true!
OT: If your looking for a chapter with a name that strikes fear into the enemy
This might help (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/List_of_Space_Marine_Chapters[/url)
Angels of Damnation, Vengeance,Retribution, Purgatory, Fury, Fire
Avengers, Black Consuls, Benedictors, Brazen skulls, Black Guard, Back Incuplators, Black Wings, Consecrators, Death Falcons, Death Eagles
Those names sounded particularly scary/feared(not including Renegades). Theres also no chapters in X,Y,Z and only Ultramarines start with U.

If you want to use Hestan please make them coal-black fellas with green armour otherwise its just another chapter who wants their cake and to eat it -
They're marines not mercs FFS its not the pigging Wild Geese!

how did hestan come into this? but i think i see he would go good with the fire hawks with his chapter tactics and if i do do that then i'll paint hin deffenetly and try to get rid of any slamander iconography

Because I am concerned about how many chapter's armies he is seen in - I reckon he must have been cloned or something..
Hence a plea to only use him if you are going salamander don't jump on the bandwagon.

ok and besides if i did use him i would try to rename him and give him a different paint scheme

For the Fire Hawks you could use the Black Templar codex/rules because the Fire Hawks were ship-based and the ferocity of the Legion of the Damned could be explained through the BT's... If you're looking for a colour scheme for them visit the Lexicanum(.com(I think)). If memory serves me well, the FH were yellow with red trim and a mushroom cloud for their chapter symbol after their home planet was razed to the ground with massive fire bombs or something.
I too am having a hard time choosing which chapter/codex/army to go with. It's a coin toss between Tau, Blood Angels, Demonhunters (though I don't think I have the necessary skill to have fun with them, just enough to get the stuffing kicked out of them) and "normal" codex-ed SMs (but then which chapter).
Please post photos of your Lamentors/Fire Hawks when finished!

The Space Marine scene needs more mysterious chapters. Yeah, they would probably use the standard marine codex, but really, we could do with more Star Phantoms and Death Spectres Armies

haha i go to lexicanuim too for all my 40k questions and for what army i won't sugest deamon hunters unless you are playing heavily allied forces because grey nights are expensive for just 5 guys you could get 10 regular space maines at the same price trullaly i would like to see people with an army other than ultramarines because me and my freind are both collecting 2nd company (i started before the 5th ed then he followed) my freind also plays tau and i get my butt kicked each time :( well heres an idea get both blood angels and regular space marines and tyr them out if you don't like one or the other you can move them over to the other codex and if i'm wrong srry i don't know too much about the blood angels codex

It takes a lot of experience and a lot of skill to not loose all your games if you're playing Daemonhunters as your core army, but it is possible. However, pure Grey Knights are not longer competitve, meaning you NEED Inquisitorial Stormtroopers and allied Sisters of Battle and/or Imperial Guard.
