View Full Version : Flyers and true line of sight...

Hi guys, my buddies and I played a game recently and we found ourselves in uncharted territory regarding targeting flyers. On one occasion, a friend attempted to target one of my flyers which he could not see because of intervening terrain. I mentioned that he might be required to actually see his target, but he replied that the flyer would be waaayy up there, therefore visible.
Obviously, the Rulebook makes no mention of a specific height for flyers, so I'd very much appreciate any opinions you guys might have as to how to resolve this please.
Cheers in advance, Khaine.

You are correct, they still require true line of sight.

The flyer has to be on the flying base that comes with it, or one that puts the model at the same height. If line of sight is blocked to the hull/body of the flyer then you are out of luck. For vehicle flyers, wings count as hull; for FMC you don't count tail, guns or wings just body.

My brother does this everytime I use a flyer, and everytime I tell him that the model has a giant flying base for a reason.
It's not "40k, the turkey shoot"
It's not that difficult to kill a flier anymore, no need to make it lopsided.

On the same lines ... how do you play fire arcs on fliers? Do you give them fire arcs or only allow them to fire at what they are facing?

It works just like any other vehicle. Fixed weapons can only shoot within a limited fire arc in the direction they're facing, turrets can pivot.

Thought so, just we have players who argue that their weapons are all hull mounted and have a 45º arc (unless they are turret mounted of course).

and that is a 45 degree arc down to, so if a termagaunt is at the base of a stormraven, the stormraven can't shoot it.
In the rare cases when it matters, assume that
guns can swivel vertically up to 45°,even if the barrel on the
model itself cannot physicallydo that!
