Mark of Chaos question

The Chaos Space Marine Codex states an independent character may not join a unit with a different mark. My question is if I have a unit of Chaos Bikers with no mark can I, at the beginning of the game, attach a lord with a mark of Khorne and a mark of Nurgle to the unit? Since the unit itself has no mark this seems valid. Thoughts?

If the lords mark didn't affect the unit it joined I would think it should be legal, unfluffy, but legal.

you have to choose one. You cannot have both at the same time.

I thought they FAQd that it is permitted for multiple differently Marked ICs could join an unMarked squad.

The Mark is not conferred to the unit, it's wargear purchased for the IC. So my view is it is permitted. Of course putting Kharn with a Sorcerer of Nurgle wouldn't affect Kharn at all :*
