The legion of damned sergeant model is armed with a power weapon and a plasma pistol.

If you read the codex entry, he starts out with a bolt pistol, boltgun and grenades like the rest of the squad. He then has the option to replace the boltgun with a variety of weapons, but this only gives him one weapon upgrade. How does he get the second weapon upgrade?

Does this mean the model does not fit the codex entry?

Uh ... wow. I hadn't noticed that. The only way I can see that being a halfway legal build is if that isn't a power sword but just a regular axe, in which case the model counts as a damned sergeant with plasma pistol, bolt pistol, and grenades. That way the only thing the model doesn't represent is the ability to fire a bolt pistol instead of the plasma pistol, which is a minor enough discrepancy on a T4 Sv3+ model that I would not be bothered by it.

The updated marine FAQ says that they may excahnge EITHER their pistol or bolter.

Woot for the FAQ!

Im thinking of getting this squad just for the pure awesomeness!

I for sure want that sgt. he is amazing. and the multi-melta marine is just mean! I have to get these guys and see if there is anyway for me to convert them into Blood Angels.

Screw converting them.... These are going to be a squad in my Apoc Death Company Army as is.

They certainly look like a viable death company to me. Post pics when you're done, I'd like to see it.

Ah yes, I also want some nice, deadly looking Death Company. But alas, I will wait until March to see what GW will do.

hmmm true. Fortunately I have no cash for minis at the moment so I don't have to deal with that temptation. But under the current rules they would make great on foot death co that I've been wanting to try out.

That's a great idea! I wasn't and still am not, impressed with these as Legion of the Damned but as DEath Company they've got loads of potential, post pics please.

Since they are S&P, can they fire the Multi Melta on the turn they arrive?

Isn't it an assault weapon anyway?

The multi-melta isn't, no. The [single] melta is.

It seems to me a standard fit for this unit includes multi-melta and meltagun. But there is no meltagun model. So if you want it, you will have to do some conversion work anyway.

The SM FAQ from 13/1/9 mentions nothing about the sgt being allowed to swap either weapon. Is there a newer one?

Yup (http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2250129_FAQ_SpaceMarines_Nov2009).
