View Full Version : Land Raider Redeemer - Worth It?

Personally, I'm torn.

Crusader
+ Huge number of twin-linked shots at close range, respectable number at long range.
+ Twin-linkage + ROF gives a decent chance of shooting down light fliers (I've seen it happen!)
+ General high quality of snap-shots due to twin-linkage
+ Frag assault launcher gives a situational boost to charging terminators
° Larger capacity (doesn't really effect me given the lists I usually run)
- 10 points more expensive.

Redeemer
+ Higher value shots (better Strength/AP)
+ Access to Ignores Cover
° Smaller capacity (doesn't really effect me)
- Two of three weapons can't be snap-shot, renders the tank much less valuable if it moves or is shaken (mitigated by Power of the Machine Spirit)

I continually lean towards crusader - heavily enough that I'm thinking that when I get a kit, I won't even bother magnetizing it - but those flamestorm cannons are really tasty...

For context, I play Knights of Blood (Blood Angels codex) so if I really wanted flamestorm cannons, I could always take a fireBaal instead. This is surely part of the calculations...

Anyway, what do you think, both for the Blood Angels codex and other takers-of-Land Raiders?

I can tell you as i have both version in both my space marine list and in my wolves list. the redeemer gets a lot of flak because its weapons can be limited. The way i look at it they aren't so much as limited as they just take more thought to use. power of the machine spirit allows you to fire a separate weapon at a different target. where as the crusader is more of a point and click tank. i will say if your using a crusader for anti air then things must have gone horribly wrong.

I know when i look at weather to take one or not i also look to what i want going inside of the tank as well as what is in the rest of the army. Not sure if thats helpful or not but its usually how my brain works. For my angles Encrime i sadly do not have any land raiders. but that could be more my fault and less with the ba book. I went mechanized infantry supported but as many tanks as i can squeeze in :)

That's not why it would be snap-shooting; the purpose of a Land Raider, especially one with frag assault launchers, is to deliver assault units into combat. The best way to do that is to drive up the field.

I love my redeemer. Drive up. Get close. Charge and roast!

I've never seen my redeemer get more than 18" in before something kills it or disables it.

Disadvantages do not make something magically better.

Usually it's more of a secondary role. But yes, when something goes horribly wrong, it's good to have that option.

I recommend Deep Striking your Redeemer.

As mentioned above, Blood Angels do it better because they can Deep Strike them... bizarrely.

I think that while the Flamestorm Cannons are indeed terrifying, I prefer the Crusader because it's much more likely to get into effective range without been blown to bits. Trying to get into Flamer sponson range with such an expensive vehicle is just asking for Melta. If you can keep it guarded from such things it will do well. Guard its flanks with other units so it can drive in, burninate and unload a close combat unit into the enemy without being blown to little bits.

I just park a techmarine with a power field generator in it. boom. once it gets into CC range he pops out and stands behind it.

Also, just a note, my fav raider is the Helios. tis made of awesome and anti-aircraft.

That is a pretty awesome land raider.

No it doesn't mean its a good thing it just changes how you position and use the land raider redeemer that's all. the same can be said for the baal predator with flame storm cannons. its just you can't be reckless with it.

as for land raider's not making it to with in 18 inches i dunno what to tell you about that one. i know i have had both good and bad luck i know if im facing necrons theres a good chance it will blow up early i knw if im facing other factions i can usualy get them to where i need them. i know kharn and his berserker escort can make a charge from their land raider with out any trouble. they aren't point and click anymore that's all.

I have never played a crusader only ever use Redeemers. However in the last three battles dispite surving to the end of two of them my flame storm cannons have killed...no one. I'm giving it one more go and them I'm hitting the crusader! Let me know how it goes and what you decide.

Due to a lot of cover saves these days it is worth taking. I would say I personally would take a Crusader, but a Redeemer can be a mobile fort version of the hellturkey

After careful consideration and reading everything on the thread, I've decided that I will probably regret it if I build my new land raider as a crusader only, so I'll go ahead and put in the magnets so I can field it as a redeemer as well. However, I'm am going to go with the simpler version of the conversion - greenstuff and magnets to hold the sponson on so I can later build and magnetize an alternate rather than the complex "magnets everywhere!" version that lets you do it with a single kit - not going to prioritize buying those bits. I don't have a lot of faith in the redeemer... but I'll probably regret it if I make it impossible for me to try it out without acquiring a third land raider.

thats a good idea i wish i had magnetized mine but alas i am the poor fool who has one of each. i will say i change between them all depending on which force i am playing around with for the month. for instance for my wolves i truy to use the crusader when I take larger squads like a full unit of terminators or a large unit of blood claws. so i take into consideration just what is going into that tank. now if you were to be taking a large number of death company then that would be something to consider. a large unit in a land raider is a big investment but one that will (atleast in my opinion) usually pay for itself as long as its able to deliver its payload to the intended target.

Use white or blue tac instead of green stuff. I used it a few times with my Tau.
