Hey everyone. I'm not a tournament player or anything, but there is always a drive to have and play the latest rules and minis. I've been recently finding some new friends - from my cousin's Pathfinder RPG game who also have bunches of minis and various books. I'm going to propose that we play some time and use whatever army books, codexes, rules books that we want to and see how the first few sessions go. We'd decide what version of the rules to use before we play or make our lists, of course. One guy proposed that we play Rogue Trader, even.
I'd hate to pay hundreds of dollars to update my library as well as minis only to find that we didn't have that much more fun than we would have with the stuff we already own.
For 40k, I have a 40k 5th edition mini book, the last Space Marine book (paperback) and a really old (3rd?) Chaos Space Marines book.
For Fantasy, I have the 8th Ed rulebook, the most recent Dwarf book (soon to be replaced), the new Tomb Kings book and an old Hordes of Chaos book (4th?).
I think it could be fun – however we set it up. Well, my son’s Chaos Space Marine Khorne Berserkers vs. Tomb Kings skeletons might be very brief, so I’ll keep the 40k/Fantasy separate.
What have been your experiences with such a plan? Do the points balances still sort of work from version to version? How messy can it get if I'm fighting a "modern" dwarf army vs. a Chaos army that uses an old army book - but we're running on the latest rules?
Thanks,
Bill
