View Full Version : GW price rise

Don't look now - the greedy SOB's at GW have quietly raised the price of the Tyranid Battleforce box from $115 to $125 in preparation for the new release.

*******s...

That's practically unheard of. Have they halved the contents yet?

They're not going to do that anymore, they have a new strategy. ;)

The original Tyranid battleforce will now be split into two smaller sets to "increase user modelling options" and "reduce the impact on your wallet". You'll be able to buy either a Battleforce A set or a Battleforce B set.

Set 'A' will contain two tyranid warriors, five genestealers and nine termagants. Set 'B' will contain one tyranid warrior, four genestealers and nine hormagaunts.

In the new codex, minimum unit size for both hormagaunts and termagants will be ten, increasable in blocks of five. Tyranid warriors will come in units of four, always. Genestealers require a unit size of 8.

The Games Workshop online store now comes with a helpful tool for solving polynomial equations so you can work out how many sets you need of each in order to actually use all the models you have purchased without having some left over requiring you to buy more and not waste some of them.

(Bonus points to the first poster in this thread who works it out, btw, or offers a proof that it is not possible. ;) ).

Wouldn't you be able to buy 40 of Set "a".

You'd be stuck with 200 stealers (good for 25 units of 8), 360 gaunts (good for 36 units of 10) and 80 warriors (good for 20 units of 4).

Set "b" on the other hand

could be had by buying 20 sets. You'd be stuck with 80 stealers (good for 10 units of 8), 20 warriors (good for 5 units of 4) and 180 gants (good for 18 sets of 10).

That, combined with pushing Apocalypse more, would make this viable purchases.. in the eyes of GW.

I'm not gonna figure out how to make set A + B work out though, lol.

Jonathan Loyd

80 of each Battle Box.

80 x 3 Warriors = 240 total = 60 units
80 x 9 Genestealers = 720 total = 90 units
80 x 9 Termagants = 720 total = 72 units
80 x 9 Hormagaunts = 720 total = 72 units

Assuming a $125 price point for each Box A and Box B, that would be $20,000 to buy the right amount models.

Yay, math.

It is almost as if their cost base has increased...

Caution. Attempting to care.

Attempt to care failed.

Abort, Retry, Fail?

Sorry guys, but whether or not you can afford your plastic crack really doesn't affect me, and I just don't get the outrage about the prices. If they're too high for you, they're too high for you. And that's about it.

Psychosplodge

No I think the complaints were valid when it was "No price rises" but in reality they'd reduced the contents. But as distasteful as it is an annual price rise is a thing...

GW disgust me, why can't they just keep their prices exactly the same like ever other company in the world? I still pay 23p for a pint of milk, GW are just greedy.

Do you want the same model range too :p

Me, I couldn't give 2 hoots as it makes Forge World stuff look more attractive, and any excuse to buy FW is good by me. Anyway if we spend more money on our crack, then we will love them more. It's win win really :D

But ALL PRICES haven't gone up have they ? I know Dire avengers earlier in the year effectively doubled in cost and the new marine tactical set is £25 now. But I don't recall there being an over all price increase now or earlier in the year.

But then, some stop being £8 a model (Wraithguard)

But shhh. Don't tell the internets.

Well bonus point awarded to Johnathon Lloyd for the right and intended answer, special bonus point to ChaosChrist for realizing you could cheat the question by buying multiples of a single box (I knew that I should have split the torsos and legs of the tyranid warriors between the boxes).

Back on topic, if anyone has access to historical prices for the same figures over time, I'll compute it compared to the inflation rates and Consumer Price Index. Then we can see if GW really are greedy *******s or if we're all just turning into "In my day, you could go to the disotheque, buy four pints of ale in the pub before and still have enough for your bus fare home, all for 50p".

EDIT: Huh. It censored "*******". Bless! :)

Deadlift

What he isn't telling you is that the ale in question is either Brew XI or Banks Best...

Mr Mystery
11-26-2013, 06:37 AM
I can remember when a £2 coin was a legitimate Beer Token.

I can remember when 20 Sovereign ciggies set you back a trifling £2.50.

I can remember when The Beano was around 20p an issue.

And as much as people focus on units going up in price, many miss the units that come down in price due to being produed in plastic. But I guess it's easier to just feign outrage, buying all the while than actually look into things rationally.

Wolfshade
11-26-2013, 06:48 AM
Last year I did find a pint of Beer in Birmingham City Centre for a triffling £1.40, which is down in the region of where they were when i started.

The pub I frequent is a specialist real ale pub serving about 20 different cask ales on any night, and pints are usually tipping the £3 mark, though most of these are sourced from small independent breweries so the price per unit will be more expensive than the economy of scales of places like the Burton breweries.

I'm using Azuriel's bow for it's 3x undead damage bonus. Combined with stacking for sneak attacks it makes short work of those dungeons.

Sneak + Bow stack is obvious. But surely the triple undead damage is a bit situational. Great against undead, but not so good agains forsworn and bandits. (Forsworn have just showed up).

The more I think of Skyrim the more I am convinced it is a allegory of the colonisation of the americas.

You have the Imperials, which are any European power, France, Spain, Prussia (somewhat), Portugues, Dutch. The "Nords" are those colonials in-situe and the Forsworn are the Natives.
The imperials need skyrim for its resources to fight a war at home, ala Napolionic.

Yeah but its already legendary, and ebony arrows (daedra hearts are too rare to use making arrows) make it good against bandits and stuff etc anyway.

Bows are nice. But there's something appealing about carrying two swords, being covered in armour and just wading in chopping folks to pieces.
