So I used weathering powders on a batch of marines, and it looked GREAT, then I sealed them. The powder disappeared under the matte coat. How do I fix weathering powders so that they stay visible?

I have yet to figure that out too. The sealer just blew it off and made my guys weirdly dull.

To keep the pigment in place, you need a fixative, I use white spirit myself, and to use varnish very, very lightly basicly, but anyting that adds moisture to the pigment will change how it looks, you won't get the same dusty look if thats what you're after, apparently Secret Weapon Miniatures have a fixative that keeps them looking the same, doubtful, but i've not tried it

What about that stuff you spray on pastel chalks? The very dab I'd imagine?

I use isopropanol alcohol when using pigments. I found that it evaporates far quicker than any other fixer and won't turn your dusty look to mud. I'm planning on a new tutorial in the near future focusing on weathering techniques and products. But for now I recommend having at a look at this.

It's from a scale model website and I think many of us should be looking at the techniques these scale modellers are using to improve our own hobby.

What I usually do with weathering powder is set it with isopropanol ( with an airbrush for a softer, dustier look, and with a spray bottle for a muddier look - can also mix the pigment and some alcohol and cake it on to things as well), then airbrush a lite coat of waterbased clear coat, then a spray matte finish.
