What do you play?

Currently I am not playing anything.
I got the WH40k Dark Vengeance box when it came out and still didn't finish painting up the models (because of other life priorities) and now that I heard how much Dark Angels and CSM suck I am kind of on the fence there.
I thought about maybe playing the smaller games (like Warmachine or Malifaux) because they are cheaper and seem more balanced then 40k but I am unsure which one to pick up (or to just stick with 40k and bite the bullet on the money thing)

Well there's plenty of choice in 40K, you don't have to use the DV DA as DA, you could always go own chapter and use codex space marines...

The big advantage to 40k is that there are a lot of people who play it.
I personally would stick with it. I am not sure I would agree with you about CSM, their codex is still quite nifty and modern. The DA one similiarly, and both are very capable of winning games.
A lot of the time the reason why an army "sucks" is just becuase it has an older codex so that people are used to the tricks, whereas with a new army people are less familiar with it so they are more difficult to beat.

Though of course I am terribly biased having been playing for far far too long. We are more than happy to help with lists and stuff or tips if you like.

Sure, I would like that.
Truth be told, before getting into it I wanted a SoB army but that is WAY too expensive (Hoping for plastics in my life time) so I settled for getting the starter box and now going back into it I hear how much White Scars are better than DA.
The other thing I was thinking about it to get into Tau since I want to do a giant robots army (paint them up in Getter Robo colors) but the robots are pretty pricey and I wouldn't even know which ones are good.

With your Dark Vengance box you could always proxy them as white scars.
"We" think that there will be plastic SoB in the foreseeable future. The modernising eCodex is a method to run down existing metals so that once the stock runs low enough then launch the new one.
Stripping miniatures from eBay is a cheaper way to get more models.

I still need to know which one to buy (and to find ones that are not overpriced)

All of them!

Hmm, my style may not be applicable.

That is the limiting factor thankfully, otherwise I would be knee deep in marines.

I'd be knee deep in grey plastic... do they count as marines still on the sprue?

They aren't grey, they are all painted codex grey...

I painted the inside of a rhino codex grey once, halfway though I couldn't tell what had been painted or not.

you painted the inside?
Why not just glue the doors shut?

I was trying something new and exciting on a rhino with opening rear hatch ready for a land raider. In the end I glued the doors shut.

You chose wisely...
