My head canon is that each of the Avengers ends up with core group of fangirl/boys, like Natasha’s (or the one she acknowledges) are teenage girls mainly who see her as their hero, little boys love the Hulk, but Thor? Little girls between like the ages of 4 and 10, cause dude he is a Prince, who rides on a rainbow bridge, and is basically the fairy tale prince in real life. And Thor ****ing loves it. His room at the Tower is just plastered with drawings they send him, and he tries as hard as he can to respond to each and every letter he gets.

And Clint and Tony would try to tease Thor about it but he’s just so proud of all his little fangirls and of the drawings and other things they send him and he’s so earnest about it that Clint and Tony end up more than a little jealous.

I just picture him meeting one of his little baby fans and they have their own little baby mjolnir and he asks her if she’d like to hold the real one, and her eyes get all big because what?? Only thor can hold mjolnir! she knows that!! So he crouches down next to her, gently holding her hand as it holds mjolnir so that even though he’s the one holding the weight, she gets to feel like she’s actually the one holding the hammer and her eyes go half as big as her whole head as grins all big and he tells her ”clearly you are worthy, little warrior!”

Just been nosing around the Comics Alliance website, and of course they have a section for Dress Up.

So had a look through. And you know, some of them? Didn't really work out all that well. But it got me thinking - What sort of a prick goes slagging off someone's Dress Up efforts? Even when the results aren't all that great, the person in the get up has still spent a lot of time and effort on that. It's like painting minis. Some people do their best, and some people are natural Golden Daemon winners. All put in their best effort, so don't go criticising for the sake of criticism.

Hats off to all those who engage in Dress Up!

And no, I won't call it cosplay. For the same reason I don't have a shelf for graphic novels. I have a shelf for comic books. :p

Whether it's the skill gone into the costume, or a person with curves proudly wearing their spandex, it's something the hater cannot or dare not do.

It's really awful. Like anything it takes practise to get good at making costumes and also experience wearing them to build up confidence and having people criticise your outfit can put a lot of people off. I have really high standards for my own costumes but I have a rule of never saying a bad word about anyone elses unless they ask me for constructive criticism in which case I will politely make suggestions.

Its not fair really, because lets face it, all cosplayers generally feel theirs something else they could be doing to make it bottom, so the last thing they need is someone else picking away at them.

Then found myself asking 'well, what if that is the best they can do? Still better than you can do, knobjockey'. Hence the post that started this bit of the discussion.

Any cosplay has had thought, effort and soul poured into it. Who knows, person wearing it could be the greatest seamstress known to man, but due to budgetary and time constraints, wasn't able to work on their own costume as much as they would have liked.

Why such negativity in geekdom? I know I've asked this before, but come on, we're all the outsiders in life, can't we just love and support one another as fellow survivors of an idiot driven world?

Done it. Last time Jcon was at the assembly rooms in Derby, and also three years ago at kitacon, went as "generic Henchman" in suit, long coat, sunglasses and ak47...
lose the Ak and not cosplaying.
The people that understood it thought it was brilliant. The people that didn't understand generic looked confused.

I'm aiming to cosplay a Cadian Guardsman Sergeant for next year's London Film and Comic Con in July. The pièce de résistance will be a working chainsword, (not actually based off a chainsaw. I have several designs planned that basically amount two a bike chain, two gears, and a piddly electric motor. Then something to make it sound beefy. Then a perspex guard, just in case.)

yeah the final episodes were made when the creator/director was suffering a mental breakdown, and he expressed it in his work, the two films of this were a more coherent take on those final episodes.

It's a great series though because he tackled mental health problems with his lead character in the series, in fact IIRC most of the characters had some problems of some sort, but that's what you would expect of teenagers who are put into a life or death struggle at the end of the world's existance.....

Evangelion was specifically made as a deconstruction of the Super Robot genre, so they spent a lot of time pondering how characters would actually react to those sort of pressures. Madoka was often billed as "the Evangelion of Magical Girls" when it first came out, so that might give you an idea of what you're headed into.

Also, watch out for "Eva 2.0", which is a later series that is a deconstruction of Eva-style deconstructions (in case your head wasn't twisted about enough already).

If anyone's thinking about watching eva, here's a quick viewer's guide:
1) Original series: 26 episodes.
2) End of Evangelion: Remakes of episodes 25 and 26. If you're short for time, I'd recommend them over the original 25 and 26.
3) Death and Rebirth: Short movies made of a mishmash of the series and End Of. Not recommended.
4) Rebuild 1.0-3.0: Movies with a lot of updated animation. 1.0's more or less a retelling of part of the original series, 2.0 deviates a bit and 3.0's a huge divergence. Pretty good. 4.0 has been in production for an annoyingly long time, no release date.

If I was showing the series to someone I was pretty sure would like it, I'd show them the stuff in that order, 1, 2, and 4. If I was trying to push it on someone I thought would be 50/50 about it, I'd start with the Rebuilds.

The Anime thread where I get most of my recommendations is split between people telling me it's Moe fanservicey rubbish, and people telling me it's good but not the best. Mmmmeehhhhhh, I'm not really one for Moe. Tenshi from Angel Beats was about enough, and I can't help but look at characters like that and think, "yeah, if I Googled your name now it'd be auto-suggested with the word Waifu." She was cool though and eventually became part of a pretty big shake-up in the story. I preferred Yurippe's character as she was a far more well-rounded person who was leading a revolution against God for the things that had happened to her in life. Can't really say I can dislike a character like that, eh? :D

Trying to track down a pair of Spider Jeruslame sunglasses for my friend's birthday next year. Turns out they're completely Hens Teeth in rarity, and will go for over £250. Not a problem for me, seeing as I'm an ace friend to have (will also get them reglazed in her prescription, and tinted to order!).

But....it's looking likely I will never find a pair in time. So can anyone recommend a cosplay type artist who might be willing to work a commission for me?

Cheers for that! I've contacted the Facebook one, as I'm hoping to get them to make the frame. Ideally, they'll be using regular spec frames, as from there I can get them made up in her prescription (I used to work at her opticians) as an extra brownie point winner. Especially as I can get them tinted to order and all!

Hehe yeah it was going around a lot back in season one, hence why the chap felt the need to do that interview.:) I really recommend OUAT, its not ot everyones taste and it has some patchy moments but its a great show in general.
