Ugh. I am seriously green with envy with people that coordinated. Just yesterday I managed to spill my coffee, drop my stapler (more like hurl it across my desk), knock a bunch of papers all over the floor, and lost the nose piece to my glasses. :mad:

There are. Tempest Freerunning Academy (Los Angeles) has been showcased on YouTube-based geek media a couple times in the past year or so. I can't imagine they're literally the only places you can learn parkour or freerunning in a structured environment.

I saw a good comment on that point, that the argument would basically go "the canon is they're male, you can't change/add to it" (also levelled at Tauriel). But really by giving the dwarves personality beyond "the fat one" and "the one that dies" Jackson and co are already breaking canon so why not make it more of a break. There this post about how the author's daughter insisted that Bilbo was a girl (http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2013/12/bilbo_baggins_is_a_girl_until_children_s_books_cat ch_up_to_our_daughters.html), so the author changed it while reading to her, and it really didn't alter the story any:

Bit of a tangent, but swapping some of the dwarf's genders around wouldn't have changed anything in the story but would have been a great step forward for inclusiveness.

well in Lord Of The Rings films Gimli does say that the female dwarve's have beards as long as the mens, and IIRC that was in the original book as well, but whether he was winding Leoglas up with a joke or not is never really clarified IIRC, though it's been years since I've read it, so my memory might not be correct on that one...

I do know that before 3rd Edition of Dungeons and Dragons came out, a similar thing was joked about in some of the settings....

Given that I've endured six odd hours of the Hobbit so far, and I still can't remember which Dwarf is supposed to be which, on account of half of them look the same, they don't do anything of significance and they seem to be in a state of perpetual motion meaning their faces aren't shown for longer than a second at anyone time, they may as well have been female. Or not be there at all. It wouldn't really matter.
