View Full Version : Advise Me: What do I do with this Rhino Chassis I Found?

So, I found a rhino chassis I'd forgotten about. I think it was once one of my two Baals... but I lost the turret somewhere along the line. I'm trying to decide what to do with it.

Option One: Convert it into a razorback, with the option to buy the bits to turn it into a rhino as well later.

This one is very appealing, because as you will see later, I am rather short on transports. It's also the most cost-efficient. All I'll need to do is buy a razorback turret (about $20 on eBay).

Option Two: Restore as predator

This one is more expensive. It will cost me between $30 and $40 to make a Baal and a little less to make it a vanilla predator of some kind (and that's only because I already have lascannon sponsons and the dakka sponsons from my Baal, which wouldn't look out of place on a predator). It feels more satisfying, because I'm not "losing" money on the change in chassis, but in real life terms, it costs me real life money and I know it.

I'm also not sure how much I need two Baals (hur hur). I know that they're great, but are they two of them great? Additionally, I know that fully loaded predators are good for Blood Angels, because the Fast rule lets them fire all their guns on the move, but is that what my collection needs?

For context these are the vehicles I currently own for my Blood Angels:
• Baal Predator
• Vindicator
• Stormraven
• Land Raider Crusader
• Drop Pod
• Razorback

So... what do you recommend and why?

Opton three: tastefully destroy it and use it as the basis for a cool terrain piece.

Restore it back to a Baal predator because everyone needs more Baals.

Depending on what you need for heavy armor destruction, I could the lascannon-turret Pred being a good option. With sponsons fitted, you can move 6" and fire 3 lascannons into a target, or 12" and fire 2, which is pretty solid. Even better, if you can magnetize or otherwise set up the sponsons to be removable, you could also field it as a T-L Las Razorback if you need the additional ride.

I'm with Cap'nSmurfs, would make a nice "wrecked" marker, offer some cover, and make a nice terrain piece, so many options!

Loot it! Put as much Dakka as you can on it; toss in the biggest engine the frame will hold; Then put even more Dakka on it... Then some more, just to be sure. :D
Oh also, Paint it Red! :D

So a Baal Predator then?

This is why the mechanicum dislikes BAs, not because the BA refuse to give them the Baal STC or the secret to overcharged Rhinos but because all BA techmaries are actually taught by Meks.

All magnets, all the time.

Trust me, if I go with predator - looks likely, from all the feedback I'm getting - it's going to be a multi-pred. Magnets for the sponsons, friction for the turret.

Ok, I took the plunge. I bought the resin big-*** dozer blade I like to use instead of that spiky little cow-catcher (though I do use the gothic cow-catcher for my Sisters of Battle vehicles...). I already have the lascannon sponsons, so I'll probably start with a lascannon turret... in a month or two.

Additionally, since I'm buying (and plan on magnetizing) the bits needed to make my dakkaBaal into a flameBaal, I will be set to field one of each. That doesn't seem like a half bad idea, actually.
