My apologies if this has already been addressed. Can you use Forgeworld rules/models in 40k if they are stamped 40k approved AND experimental? Ex. Spartan assault tank

Only with your opponent's permission and generally only in friendly games. I haven't seen a tournament that allows experimental rules because, well, they're experimental. Stuff that is still being tested shouldn't be in a game where there are serious honours on the line.

Agreed with Morgrim on the ones that are still marked 'experimental'.
But once they appear in the published forgeworld book with the '40k' stamp you are usually good.
Many major tourneys now allow those in various events.

If you couldn't use the rules, what would be the point of writing them?

Agree with the general wisdom. Note re the Spartan however is you can expect 40k official rules stamp soon according to the forgeworld seminar at games day. :)

I thought it already was in the Imperial Armour Apocalypse book?

The experimental rules are ones they're still testing for balance. They're released so the players with the model can use them in games and provide feedback, then after a while Forgeworld tweaks them as necessary and adds them to a published book.

I guess it's been hard to keep up with Forgeworld rules lately. I played a guy the other day who didn't realise that Contemptor Dreadnoughts had new rules in the new Imperial Armour Apocalypse.

yeah FW did put out quite a few books in recent months... I just find it curious that this seems to pretty much only happen to the Spartan atm...

why would anyone deny you the right to use an awesome model with mediocre rules?

So true... and everything that was a great value has diminished with the latest updates! Biggest issue I have with FW is the rules have changed a lot over the last few years and after the failed marriage with GW product distribution they have been annoying to find in the states.
Most events allow 40k approved now but I would not expect any TO to allow experimental rules.

Thanks for all the imput! Could someone please tell me which IA book has the spartan and LR achilles rules? I can't seem to find this information anywhere. I want to build a fun list of big guns, to play locally, and was mainly wondering how everyone feels about the rule aspect of it.

The Spartan is definitely on page 12 of the recent Imperial Armour Apocalypse book.
(I have it open before me)
I believe the most recent rules for the Land Raider Achilles to be in Imperial Armour Ten: The Badab Wars, although that'll require further verification as I don't have a copy of that book.
