This is a list intended to be just for fun and exploring the opportunities that comes from fielding the Black Templar. I will note in advance that there is an advantage in that Crusader Squads are not bound by a certain number of squad members in order to take heavy or specialist weapons (like regular Tactical Squads). They in fact can take a special weapon and a heavy weapon together in a 5-man crusader squad. As such, I have created a gun-line list around that fact. It’s just for fun, but keep in mind that this could be more deadly.

Instead of Emp Champ, take helbrect. He grants the entire army hatred and fleet for a turn. Drop a crusader squad to give him an honor guard. Profit.

I would, except that the Emperor's Champion is a tiny bit more deadly in challenges than Helbrect.

Yes...but gaining ID on a lucky rending roll when you need an average of 4+ to wound isn't worth the sacrifice of 11 squads gaining army wide rerolls in CC and fleet for a turn. (plus helbrect's unit gains furious charge, and he's got a master crafted sword).

IF you maybe had two or three crusader squads, I could see an argument for an emp champ...but 11? Not taking advantage of helbrect's army wide abilities would greatly reduce the effectiveness of those squads. The emp champ can help 1 of 11. (and only really helps in challenges, as his stances are useless outside of challenges). Helbrect helps 11 of 11. (if you want to use the emp champs model, just use him as the champ in the honor guard)

Were this an assault oriented Black Templar list, I would agree with you. However, it's not. It's a gun line. I don't need Helbrecht to give my gun line better assault attributes.

Also, I fixed the list since I forgot that you have to have two HQs for double FoC.
