Hey all,
A new Heroclix set came out and my friends bought some. Well, they opened up some packs and out came a giant wolf strangely enough called 'Fenris Wolf' they said it's Loki's kid or something. Immediately, I thought of Thunderwolf Cavalry. Here's a pic with a WIP Space Wolf standing next to him for scale. What do you think? I think I need 5 more of these wolves. :)

That looks right fierce, and awesome for Thunder Wolf Cavalry.

That does look cool. But it's a rare, so not sure how easy it will be to get 5 (probably not easy, until the secondary market reforms)
(OK, it's got me checking ebay right now anyway)

I'd say that judging by how Heroclix is right now, if you give it a couple of weeks or a month, you'll probably be able to get em for 1-3 bucks each. Right now they're 5-8. There are chase figures in the newest set so people will be buying more and be more likely to throw away their rares for cheap money. My friend gave me one cuz I picked up his cases.

After I'm done painting Bjorn, I think I'm gonna try to Thunderwolf Cavalry up this wolf with a marine on him and see what happens.

I just bought five off of ebay for $22.00. They can be found for certain.

I like them a lot more than that chinchilla-wolf thing that GW sculpted. The trick will be getting a marine to fit.

It does come prepainted.

I have a pic of marine legs that I put on the wolf and it looks good. I'll post it later.

Nice, with some serious green stuff for a saddle and some cutting on the biker legs I think that could work!

Too bad there's only one pose.

In my opinion, Maxmini is the best option so far.

Yeah, in my local gaming group there's a new Space Wolves player who's pretty good, but hasn't played with the "new Nob Bikers", because he hasn't found a suitable model yet. The Heroclix wolf is pretty good (and prepainted!) but the one from Maxmini might be better. I will present both to him as options.

BTW, what's the link for the Maxmini?

Although I don't think the Maxmini wolf is ready yet, it's still in production.

Enigma Miniatures has a new wolf out as well:

And while we're on the topic of wolves, I just finished this book a couple of weeks ago. Very, very inspirational for anyone making a Space Wolf army. An absolute must read:

I got info on the Maxmini off of a blog. The price is supposed to be around $22 US. There is also a 3 pack planned.

Slightly off-topic, but doesn't that guy on the book cover look kinda like Chris Martin from Coldplay? Lulz!

Yeah, that is a pretty lousy cover, and it doesn't do the book justice.

It was written in the 50's, and the edition I have is from the 80's.

I guess the publishers decided it was time to modernize it.

Damn kids! Get off my lawn!

Can't decide between biker or dreadnaught base.

Those proportions are surprisingly good.

I'd attached the base on;y lightly, if possible. Maybe with some wood glue and only basic flock around the rock, so that when the 'correct' size wolf bases are confirmed you can swap them if needed. And I think the bike base looks best.

Looks great! I never got to post my pic. I didn't have a body on the legs anyway. I would go with a Dreadnaught base cuz Canis is on a dread base.

Two questions....

(1) I've heard (don't know how to confirm) that there is a 'rule' that the model has to be 75% G-W product for tournaments, etc. How does that factor into making a Thunderwolf Cavalry out of the options presented here?

(2) Where are you getting the biker legs? Are you cutting apart a biker or are the legs available as bitz?

OK, that's actually 3 questions.

1. Not sure, but I'm not too concerned as I just play with friends.

2. For all my cavalry I used combined Wolf gaurd / tactical marine parts. It doesn't really matter. I cut one of the legs for a reposition with a little green stuff at the joint.

Here's the finished guy:
