I was trying to get on the GW site after I got home from work and was having an incredibly hard time. The page just wouldnt load. Friday evening is when the preorders go up so I figure the site may be swamped. Finally did get it to load and the new stuff is on the site now.

trying to actually order anything is a nightmare though, mine keeps timing out on the way to the checkout

Same here, trying to order a ltd codex. Bloody nightmare.

worse is they are broken down to 500 for each cover, so its a crap shoot for it you get the one you want

sigh, the damned thing just went down for "maintenance"

I was trying to pre order some stuff too, I just got a message saying they are down for maintenance. I wonder if we killed GW servers.

Yeah, the UK site is down to. Who'd have thought Space Marines would be so popular?

I find it more surprising the GW wasn't ready for this, even iyanden almost tanked the site.

Wildeybeast

Kind of hard to prepare for I guess. They could only guesstimate how much server capacity they need for something like this. I mean, pretty much every major online based game launched on the last couple of years has had server issues, so if they can't manage it, GW can be forgiven for struggling.

It took a while but I got the Iron Hands cover.

Having seen the Centurion models properly now, I actually find I rather like them.

The "new" Space Marine Captain's a bit weak, though. He's just a minor retooling/resculpt of the old Black Reach Captain. :(

I was right about the sternguards, the tabarads are molded on.

Agreed on all points.

Ugh. I wish I weren't so broke...and that I had a gaming club/store nearby.

I have plans for those Centurions...plans to make Obliterators for my Thousand Sons that don't look all...gross.

I think that you're being quite charitable calling it just "a bit weak." LOL

It's a good sculpt, just underwhelming considering we've had pretty much the same thing before and it comes with a pretty 'meh' weapon load-out.

I love the Captain, he's lovely and much nicer with the helmet than the AoBR captain. I also think the Librarian is gorgeous, and they were considerate enough to make the cherub a separate piece meaning I'll probably end up buying a bunch.

Not sure what I'll buy right now beyond the codex, characters and Damnos though.

The chaplain looks a bit better in the 360 pics, helmet is still a tad goofy though, more so than the Dark Vengeance chaplain in my opinion which is quite nice.

Oh dear me, double the price for a different cover and some page trim. Thanks but no thanks GW.

I'm thinking of buying the strike force, new captain and two boxes of Sternguard (should give enough bits to pass around).

Just wait a month and buy them on e-bay for half the price when people rage at there marine armies.

Maybe it's just my phone, but I can barely make out the helmets on those sprues. Can someone figure out how many mark 6 helmets are in each of the new boxes? It is clearly the most important question right now.

(I play Raptors. Raptors have beaks.)

Order Forgeworld mark 6....there almost the same price and much better quality.

Not once you factor shipping to the states. I'll probably try and find someone local willing to trade heads. Also, aren't the Forge World ones sans gear? That starts to add up.

No if you want mark 6 it does work out cheaper then buying mark 6 plastic bitz to get the full kit from forgeworld.

No one seems to have mentioned this and I can find anything in WD or other forums but it looks like the iPad codex has an in built army builder like app call Force Requisition. Hope they produce this for other codices or as an update.

And here I thought it sounded ridiculous. so ridiculous that when flashgits predicted it a few months ago I thought it was a good joke.

Still based on the same model.
I won't be getting it anyway, far too Roman-esque.

Sternguard x2, Vanguard, Centurions, and a Librarian when I get around to having money again. xD

... No.

That has the exact same pose, bar the obvious 'my sword is pointed slightly this way'.
All that's been done is a slight resculpt on the AOBR model. It's so noticeable.

It's actually a pretty major resculpt. It uses the same basic model, yes, but the cloak is different, the arm is different, the legs, torso, head, back banner, gun are different. It's like the Trigger's Broom of 40k. It's the same sculpt, except for the ten or so bits of it which are completely new. :)

Also, it's not snap-fit. There'll be 3d details in it, like the skirt.

Yup, it's completely different. Different feet, different legs, different chest, different helmet and that's just the armour.

Just from Headmath, and being unable to access the site because everyone's frantically buying Space Marines, but it's worth saying that the Strike Force is around a £40 saving on what you get. It's also a full, legal, halfway decent army in a box, so that's nice.

And the Centurions continue to grow on me.

I can't even get on GW's web site to order. And personally I can't wait for the tanks. I think the guns are stupid but its something new to play with.

still on an extreme go slow. I finally got my order placed at lunch time after three and a half hours of trying between last night and this morning. still not managed to actually look at all the new model pages yet on the site.

If someone wants to put together a 2000pt. basic Space Marine list (Ravenguard theme), and he already has the most recent Battleforce and DV, would the Strikeforce plus that cover all the basics without much/anything left over? This would be for casual play.

Psychosplodge

Really don't like the centurions.
Shame about the tabards on the veterans, I like cloaks/capes or full robes, but not a big fan of tabards though. *shrug*
Have they overdone it with the breastplate choice on the tactical sprue? certainly going to make a uniform force more difficult to assemble.

So Salamanders and Ultramarines have joined the Successors special editions as out of stock! Wonder if they will use the sell out rate as a clue to which codex supplements to release first???

The feet aren't different at all...
And as I said on the other thread, he has basically taken a few details from Sicarius (a la torso) and spliced it with the AoBR Captain.

It's not major at all, a major resculpt is turning a giant into a fish.

It uses basically the same pose, but both are sculpted separately, it's not like they took the old BR captain and shaved him down then started putting bits on him to make the new guy.

I dunno. Given that they're both sculpted in CAD, that's likely exactly what happened, digitally speaking. Right?

It's not really a big deal either way - it's a decent model, nice to see it back in production, etc - but $30 for a single plastic model is crazy person money, especially with all the better alternatives out there.

They may have used the same armature, but the details make it seem like it was easier done from scratch than modifying the BR captain
Cape:
BR- off the neck guard, covering both shoulderpads in the rear
New- Attached to crux at left shoulder, covers nearly entire left pad, does not cover any of right pad or arm
Legs:
BR- Mark 6 style
New- Mark 7 style with kneepads
Torso:
BR- Champion style split collar, cords with 2 pendants, mostly covered by tabard/robe which extends down past waist, skull and compass belt buckle
New: Mk 8 style gorget, cord with tassel, skull and laurel belt buckle, leather tassets. No tabard.
Weapons: similar pose, though BR gun is held more horizontal, and sword is closer to straight ahead, new captain is more angled.
Collar/head-
BR: Eagle collar in rear, bare head with bionic eye
New: Iron Halo collar, helmet with crest or head with bionic eye.
Backpack/banner- call it a wash.

So Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, Salamanders and the successors are the most popular. Their codices have sold out first.

So basically the codex covers that actually look good, as opposed to the shrunken head and the "standard pose" whitescar/ravenguard books
