Just finished this guy in iron warriors colours. Works quite well for the hellturey if you ask me...

Hope you like them.

Oh, and I also finished these, a dwarf bloodbowl team. They just screamed for an "american" colourscheme when I first saw them:

There could be more iron in the middle of the drake, but beside this its look iron warrior mainly because the chevrons. Well done so far. But iŽll change not the slightly ugly basic model. There are some very good and easy conversions out there, some bulky builds, that macht IW more.

Helldrake looks awesome! Any tips you could share about the painting?

Well, sure.

I started off with a grey primer. Then ocre yellow from VMC for the hazard stripe panels. Tape them off for the pattern and then spray them black.

The metallics were given a coat of either boltgun metal or gunmetal from VMA. The boltgun metal was given a first wash with nuln oil to darken it a bit to match the gunmetal.

Then, I stippled on some VMA steel paint with a sponge for a patchy, irregular metallic pattern. some was stippled onto the hazard stripes, but that's just battledamage... Same procedure with scorched brown for the deepest rusty bits.

Then another coat of nuln oil.

Then a wash made of vallejo rust coloured dry pigments and watered down satin varnish as a binder. Well thinned so it's not too deep and glazes it more.

Then some final edge highlighting with steelpaint and done...

What kind of tape do you use for taping off the model? I can only think to use masking or clear sticky tape, but can't help but think that would take the pain underneath with it when I remove it.

I used regular old masking tape for wall painting.

However... I cut out the strips of 5mm first by glueing it on a polysterene block. that made sure a large part of the adhesive was already gone. so sticky enough to still mask, but not so sticky that it will damage the paint underneath.

And also... let your coats harden enough. Just dry isn't going to cut it, it needs to have been fully cured (can take several hours, I usually leave the basecolour on overnight before masking over).
