uh... so two new Corvette-sized ships for the Rebels, and Imps get the finger? nah, they're not like that...
They're probably going to put out Imperial equivalents simultaneously methinks... Lancer or Tartan class probably and... uh I dunno... some transport or other...

a 10 Meter long board? so that the ISD can move a bit? ^^

Y-wing: 5.9cm
Corvette: 55cm
Nebulon B: 1.1m
Mon Cal Cruiser: 4.4m
Imp Class I SD: 5.9m
Proper scale of larger kits. ISD just wouldn't be possible, if the Corellian Corvette is 90usd the ISD would be close to one thousand assuming price and size follow in a linear fashion.

Hard to tell but the corvette looks a little bit small.

The models are utterly beautiful though.

Edit: Ah it's not to scale, bit small. They do talk about it as a sort of precedent for changing the scale of larger ships.

I have been looking for a large-enough, not necessarily perfect-scale Imperial Star Destroyer to use as a backdrop piece of scenery in battles. :-)

Not found one yet though... :-( The most suitable is sadly a very, very expensive LEGO kit - the rest are just too small...

There aren't any that I'm aware of. All too small.

I recommend watching the video from the website I linked to, very interesting:

Not sure how I feel about that. I imagine that the standard 100-point game is going to become 150 in order to accommodate how many points these ships will cost. Or maybe not. A friend at GenCon said they looked great, though.

It raises some interesting questions about the headroom they've left for themselves in the design space. I didn't think they'd get larger than the YT-1300, but sure enough, they did.

So basically, a rolling scale as the ships go up in size. The FFG developers said at the primary concern was:
Cost
Playability

So realistically I'd put the largest model you could stick on a table and use probably at about 2 to 2.5 feet for the extremely large vessels.

Yup. I'm actually hoping they address this by using different planes of action like in the Empire of War video game. So while capital ships can shoot at fighters and vice versa they can't collide or physically interact because the capital ships are further away. So in rules terms you could have ships moving through capital ships as they aren't actually in the way.

Tyrendian

problem with that probably is: then you'd have to allow them to stand on top of each other... although the Corvette might just be on a high enough stand to let fighters etc go underneath...

Yup, but the bases look quite tall in the photos.

just watched the video - should work fine at least with the fighters - not so sure about Slave 1 etc., but then those could be excluded from moving through the really big guys I think

You can always remove the model from the base if placement becomes an issue.

This is really neat. I wasn't sure if they'd ever do this because of the scale. I'm a little afraid though, because the only thing I can think of for the Empire that's iconic are Star Destroyers, which would have to be at least double this size to look even remotely right, and this size is pushing it as it is. Oh well, I had no real intention of using capital ships anyway, so regardless of how they handle it, I can at least save myself the money. ;P

The main thing that excites me about this trend in general is the possibility for the bombers in the game to act as bombers. I enjoy dog fighting very much. I enjoy dog fighting with Y-wings for the challenge and the fluff (Y-wings always being more common in the Rebel fleet than any other kind of fighter), and I'm sure I'll enjoy the same with B-wings and TIE/sa's - but at the same time, I do want the option of something big to throw all those proton torpedoes at. I don't think it's something I'd want in my games all the time, but the "attack the big thing" scenario is pretty iconic to both Star Wars space combat and the star fighter genre in general, in my opinion.

Agreed. Also, FFG have a nice article about the big ships on their website now (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4312).

The Tantive IV won’t be legal for standard tournaments, but you’ll be able to bring it to battle in both the Cinematic Play and Epic tournament format. Furthermore, you’ll gain the opportunity to crew it with the indomitable Rebel hero, Leia Organa!

Look at those ships! Gorgeous!!!

Also this regarding the GR-75 pack:

While the Rebel transport is only legal in the game’s Cinematic Play and Epic tournament formats, the rest of the expansion is likely to make its impact upon the standard game with five different upgrade options, a new X-wing miniature, and four new X-wing pilots, including Jek Porkins and Rebel ace Wes Janson.

Yup, really pretty. I do wonder what the Empire will get though. The smallest thing I can think of, the Tartan patrol ship, is still twice as long as a corvette.

They could do an IPV-1 or DP20. Those are the same size or smaller than a CR90.

Those pesky Bothans have said to take a *good look* at this:

Hmm, seem like a good counterpart for anything that was recently announced?

Vigil-class Corvette
The Vigil-class corvette was a warship in the Imperial Navy.

This design originated as a fanon vessel made by Ansel Hsiao. According to Hsiao, it was intended to be a heavy corvette for escort, reconnaissance, and utility duties of the Galactic Empire. When approached by Lucasfilm Licensing to provide artwork for The Essential Guide to Warfare, Hsiao submitted his own designs in addition to new models, along with their names. The names were recorded in LFL's Holocron continuity database, according to the artist. Jason Fry, one of the authors of the book, forgot to record the statistics of the Vigil-class corvette in the endnotes section detailing the other ships Hsiao design, and proceeded to post it on the eighth part of the endnotes on his tumblr account as a quick note at the end.

Class: Corvette
Length:255 meters
Users: Galactic Empire

That would be possible, still 66% longer than the Tantive IV though. It has the iconic pie slice shape.

Stick in a lancer class and laugh at the little fighter ships....
