So I guess most of his have atleast read the BOLS campaign books and minidex. I was just wondering if anybody around here has used them. I quite enjoyed all of them, and if I had time and money I would make enough genestealer cultists, arbites, and witch hunters for a fun little campaign centered around cultist insurrection. Almost seems like that was their original intent in writing them.

Only played a few proxy games with the Genestealer Cult and Arbites. Now my friends and I might of missed a few things since we only did a few games (Only like 3 or 4 games with each). They are decent codexes but run into problems when going up against mechanized forces.
Arbites have to practically completely rely on breaching charges (Melta Bombs) and the Black Maria (which is only Strength 8) to take out all tanks. The Cult have more available options but still can run into problems since they can't take many anti-tank weapons in their force. An all mechanized force will give both these armies trouble and considering how most people play, well you can see the issue.
An other issue is their psychic powers, which honestly I think are all terrible. All are really short range, something that shouldn't really need a psychic test (Transfixing Gaze), or can only be used at a strange time (Can only be used BEFORE your movement phase?). After a game or two, we stopped using the psykers because they aren't useful at all.
Now both codexes are really well done and all but they need some additional tweaking and updating. I don't think their intent was to really build these "armies" to be able to face other official armies, but to make a version of these that fit into what they actually do in fluff. Which has its good and bad points to it.
These armies work well against each other through, like you said it's almost like their intent. I would really only start building one of these if I know my opponents wouldn't take advantage of their weaknesses in every game and in my area I honestly don't see that happening but your mileage may differ.
