This issue comes up almost everytime I face daemonhunters, but I never seen it mentioned on a site. The issue is the Grey Knights Libby and Dreadknight have the powers of Darkexcommunication, something like than. What it does is negate Daemonic Gifts.

The last edition for Daemons nearly everything was a Daemonic gift. For example daemonette rending claws was a gift. If I go grab my 5th edition daemon codex, or 4.5 codex. I can tell you the handful abilities that was not a gift like fatweaver re rolling invulnerable saves for example.

However when they totally revamped Daemons they added extra abilitieson top of gifts. Now you have diffierent categories of abilities for Daemons.

1. Daemonic Gifts
2. Hellforged Artifacts
3. Daemonic Rewards
4. Daemonic Psychic Powers
5. Daemonic Alignment
6. Daemonic Instability
7. Warp Strorm Attributes: like +1 to invulnerable saves

6 is not really a benefit unless you can roll double 6, which means your daemons recover like necrons, well similiar. The other 7 categories gives a daemon some sort of buff. It's important to know that the only category that can be negated by Grey Knight is Daemonic Gifts, Psychic Powers when targeted at Greyknights with dreadnoughts and hoods can be negated, but not completly like Dark X.

Daemonic Gifts are even broken down even further.

Ranged Weapons:
Soul Grinder torrent weapon, harvester cannon, battle cannon, warp gaze
Plague drones ranged attacks
Lash of Despair
Lash of Khorne
Skull Cannon
Tzeentch Flame Weapons: Blue horror flame attacks, flamers

Melee Weapons:
Weapons of Khorne
Weapons of Tzeentch
Weapons of Nurgle
Both EtherBlades
SoulGrinder sword and claw weapons
Witstealer Sword

Daemonic Attributes:
Collar of Khorne
+3 poison for Plague Drones and the instant death ability as well
+3 armour

Daemonic Steeds:
All 4 mounts buffs

As you can see taking away Daemonic Gifts can be rather nasty. Also keep in min when you switch t weapons from the rewards table you are taking on gifts and can be negated by the GreyKnights. Also if you receive a 3+ save via Greater Reward it can't be negated like the gift armour. Aso loci is not negated.

Let's look at Skarbrand for example. The only gift he has is his +3 armour. Meaning everything else can't be negated. Honestly his armour would be negated anyway, so dark xing Skarbrand would be a waste of tme.

However if you was facing basic Daemonettes and horrors Dark X will not effect them at all. The Daemonettes can still rend you all day and if given the loci to re roll hits they can still do so. Well that may be true to those two groups of Daemons Khorne and Nurgle lose their hth weapons. It's not really a big loss for Nurgle unless they are facing a Dreadknight, but for khorne it is a major set back.

Out of the 4 differant factions within the Daemon book only Khorne is majorly nerfed by Dark X. Nurgle is nerfed offensively, but defense wise it doesn't effect them. The remaning two factions could care less. Ark X also hurts plague drones, soul grinders, skull cannons, and theflaming chariot.

In my opinion dark x used to be the anti daemon power, but it is more the anti khorne power. It still hurts, but it is not as powerful it once was. It will not stop +2 invulnerable, invisible, Daemonettes from re rolling hits rending you to death.
