View Full Version : Do you have more than one faction/army?

Like a lot of other Warmahoraders, I came from playing GW games where I have much larger armies. Perhaps it's out of habit, but the smaller size of game and lower cost per army has me thinking about adding more Warmarchine armies.
Do you guys and gals have that itch to keep buying additional armies?
I played Cygnar in MKI, and a bit in MKII, but I've never been thrilled with them. Aesthetically, I love the Trollbloods but I really want some giant robots to stop stuff.

The buy in is lower but the total army cost is not, don't fall into the trap :) That said, I run Retribution and Mercs, 'cause I like me some NGOs.

I have an itch to buy a 2nd army for warmahordes... and I haven't even played my first game. Can't find any players in my area. But that's a totally different discussion I guess. I like the models for Warmahordes, which is why I bought some Khador intially. I might get some Cygnar. But then again, Cryx looks awesome as well... as do Mercs.
That all being said, it might be easier to convince my friend or my girlfriend even (who said she's interested in playing, but not interested in spending money on it) to have a go with some warjacks. So having more than 1 faction might actually get me some play, heh.

No, not really, but owning multiple armies is very common for WM/H players. I myself own Circle, Mercs, and Trollbloods. When you can make a pretty decent 35 point army for $150 or so, expanding to multiple armies is less of an enormous chore, and given that some events are WM or H only, I'd say most players tend to end up with at least one army on each side of the divide.

Yeah I got into it about a year or so ago and now have cygnar, khador, and a convergence group. Really digging convergence with it's odd assortment of synergies

I started with Cygnar and, shortly thereafter, Everblight. I eventually got bored with Cygnar and traded it in for Khador. I also got a great deal on some Circle and grabbed that, too. And the modularity of the game also has me gradually picking up Mercs. Also the Rhulic 'jacks are so derpy and adorable!
I have too many WarmaHordes armies, don't I?

I have a fully painted Cryx army and a completely unpainted Pirate Merc army... oi, my poor painting queue...

I would say it's pretty common to have a faction from each system. Usually the one that piques your interest. I
Having said that, I plan on getting into the game soon. Starting with Legion for Hordes and Khador for Warmachine, and then jumping to Circle most likely. (:

This! Of all the online planning/shopping I have done. I've noticed that I can make any desired army for around $150 minus dice, tokens, templates, etc. If it's just models this can easily be done.
Cheers!

I have Cryx, Retribution, Khador, Menoth, Legion and Skorne. I like to get a bit of variety. That being said, I have heard it time and time again that picking up at least 1 Hordes and 1 Warmachine faction helps out greatly. Being able to see the advantages and disadvantages with each side, and getting the feel of each one helps tremendously.

I started playing WM/H just a few months ago and I only have Retribution so far, but the temptation is definitely there to try some of the other factions (Circle and Trollbloods mostly).
That said, I'd rather finish painting my Ret first and get some more playing experience before buying into another faction. It just feels like I wouldn't get anything done modelling wise or in tournaments if my focus was split between two factions...

Mercs(Rhulic mostly), Cygnar and Legion.

Circle is my main faction and first love. I have almost the entire line.
I also play Cryx and have a huge army. I can field about 150 points.
I recently started trolls and traded off all my gators for decent sized army.

I own a fair bit for all factions short of Skorne, Retribution, Minions and Convergence. I'd say Trollbloods are my main/favorite faction, but Circle and Legion are tied for second. Protectorate and Mercs tie for third and everything else is fun, but only sees the table occasionally.

My main faction is Khador. I have some Skorne as well, and have been thinking of getting into Cryx.

My first was Protectorate of Menoth, adding some Mercenaries, Legion of Everblight. I also have Cygnar, Cryx, Skorne and Convergence of Cyriss to paint up.

I've been playing Everblight since the day I started playing. then again, I've always been devoted to one singular faction when gaming. I do Own a Cryx force and XYZ of other factions. The faction that is set to be revealed at Templecon rustled my jimmies though.

Well, IŽve got Circle, Legion, Khador, Protectorate, Trollbloods and Retribution. My biggest army is Circle, is the one I like it the most.
Maybe one of these days when I buy some more stuff to Circle, IŽll start with the Cryx box, just to check it ;)
Circle and Khador, here. Although at various times since MKI, I've had... well, everything except Trollbloods. And now this Convergence crap.

Ugh....oh man. The problem is that all of the armies are distinct and neat, but fluf-wise and tabletop-wise. Grr....I'd love to play 'em all, but for now I have a small Retribution army started. Working on a menoth army and I have some Cryx which I'm hoping to sell off to make room for Skorne.

I've played most factions at one point or another (minus Gators and Cryx), and I think it's really fun to have a diversity of models. Currently I only own Retribution and Circle. I played Cygnar and Trolls for a long time before that. This is a system where having two factions feels natural so you can play around with Focus or Fury.

I currently run Trolls as my main, but i do have a Khador, Skorne and Legion army ready in reserve :)

I started the game (almost) right from the beginning with Khador. In the not too distant past I had everything that they released (except Winterguard-yuck) painted and sometimes in multiples. I picked up Legion right when it came out and again, have almost everything (painted as well). I wasn't having fun with Khador (and the Focus mechanic in general) so, I eventually got rid of all my Khador. Still stuck with Legion and it has become my "signature" army. Over the past 2 years I have started a Skorne army. It has come alone quite well, but I struggle with the Skorne learning curve. It is quite a bit different. But, this is a good thing!

So... this post of mine I quoted above is about a year ago. And how things have changed in the past year, lol.
At the moment I have; Khador, Cygnar, Menoth, Skorne, Cryx and a few Merc mini's (mostly solos and 2 casters; so no playable force).
And I suspect that the future will hold even more armies even if it's just for painting purposes, since I still haven't played my first game. There are 2 forces I'm not to thrilled about aesthetically, those being Retribution and Rhulic. Trollbloods don't excite me that much either, but I can see myself buying a battlegroup at some point, just like Everblight. I'm a bit in the middle about Convergence, looking through their units ruleswise... I don't know. I do like the clockwork angels figures though... and thus I can see myself eventually buying those and trying to build a force with those.
Oh well, there are arguably way worse things to spend money on.

As a bit of thread necro (and a convenient introduction) - I can field at least 35 pts for every faction, pact and contract. Some of them are a bit of a stretch, but it means that I can loan out at least the journeyman battlebox for anyone who wants to learn how to play.
I don't generally play them all, of course. For the past year and some, Convergence has been my main army, though the upcoming releases for Minions have me dusting off my pigs and gators again.
