Now, now. The kid's only a few hours old. At least give him the chance to @#$%-up on his own.

Of course, the first three would always apply, just as they apply for all of us for the first ~18 years of life.

Humbug!

It's all a humbug.

Ah, MM, your jealousy is making you quite green. Even if we dispensed with the Monarchy, the Windsor family has sufficient personal resources to live in a manner beyond your imagination - or is it all wealth and privilege you dislike? Perhaps they should be stripped and dealt with a la Romanovs, Tovarisch?

But back on Topic, I think perhaps Richard is my favourite of all the possible historic King's names.

Just sick of the wall to wall coverage.

I'm not exactly a republican, but I'm not on the other side either.

Just another poor sod born into the limelight who will never know five minutes peace.

And another photo op for politicians to try to convince us they're not entirely self serving *******s.

And another reason for me to ignore the news for the next..ooh....month or so, because I just don't bloody care.

NOT a fan of Joe. I don't know about the UK, but in the US it is one of the most basic, bland, ubiquitous names you'll find - there's a reason the phrase "average Joe" makes sense. It's the "Smith" of first names. The one saving grace for a name like Joe is no matter your last name, nobody will be able to Google you and get anything meaningful out of it.

Seriously, if they want people to perk up and pay attention when the kid's name is announced, don't go with "Prince Joe."

@MM - fair enough. Avoid channels 501-601 and you should be alright...

@ everyone else - I am not hugely convinced by Joe...

I think Joe was ment as a joke tbh, but thanks Necron Joseph just happens to be my name lol. I was named after my grandfather. As good natured as I am if someone said that about my name to my face they would be picking teeth out of their bum hole. ;)

I must admit this news has given me the feel good factor today, it's a splendid time to be British at the moment with all our sporting accomplishments and what not. This is just the icing on the cake really. Now just to finish off smashing the Aussies at the Ashes to add the cherry on top.

It creates and sustains the media frenzy, maybe they want to tell their families first? Maybe it has to be checked by scholars that it is appropriate? Maybe they are undecided?

They wait until the christening - this is due to tradition by the way, not part of a media campaign to generate headlines and advertising revenue...
