Whirlwind Scorpius £49.50

An ancient variant of the more common Whirlwind missile tank, the Scorpius was designed with a single purpose in mind – the destruction of heavily armoured infantry. The Scorpius variant replaces the Whirlwind’s multiple missile launcher system with the intricate drum-fed scorpius launcher, whose implosive warheads are devastating to armoured infantry and light vehicles. The Whirlwind Scorpius’ origins lie in the dark days of the first inter-Legion civil war and, in more recent times, it has become an all but forgotten relic amongst some Chapters as the ability to manufacture its complex munitions has become a forgotten art, but for other Chapters it still remains a potent weapon of war.

Rules for its use in 40k can be found here (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/s/Relic_Scorpius.pdf). Heresy era rules to follow later in the year.

Javelin Attack Speeders £52

Larger and more heavily armoured than the common pattern of Land Speeder, the Javelin Attack Speeder is a nigh-irreplaceable relic of a bygone age of technological mastery. Gravitic nullification plates, the secret of whose production and maintenance have long since been lost, allow the Javelin to mount an array of heavy weaponry more akin to a heavy tank destroyer than a nimble Land Speeder, allowing them to make pinpoint strikes on enemy armour or infantry with devastating lascannon or missile barrage. Those Chapters of Space Marines whose histories stretch back into the grim days of the Imperium’s founding may, if they are fortunate, still possess a few justly revered Javelins within the sanctified depths of their armouries.

The model comes with either the twin Lascannons or the twin Cyclone launchers. Rules for its use in 40k can found here (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/j/Relic_Javelin.pdf). Heresy era rules to follow later in the year.

I like the speeder but can't see me getting one. I badly want one of those Whirlwinds though!

Pretty sure the Javelin is designed as a homage to the classic shampoo bottle speeder/skimmer tank of the Rogue Trader era.

All of those are awesome! I want 5 land speeders with heavy bolters for my HH army...

Mmmm. I like the look for both of these:

Is the Javelin supposed to be the classic heresy era heavy-nosed speeder?

Typical GW lol.
Im not struck by the whirlygigs looks at all, but the rules are effective.
I love the speeders looks, but the rules? Really? Av11 2hp vehicle that cant squadron and has to compete with a plethora of far superior fast attack choices? A proper let down.
For 50 squid its expensive and outclassed by cheaper and better alternatives.
Fiddlesticks.

I like the design of both, but I can't see me spending Landraider/Storm Raven money on either. Not untill I have 3 more land raiders and 6 more storm ravens and a couple of Wraith Knights, and the Imperial Knight and and and.

You crazy man. Its got more armor, and a better weapon for cheaper than a normal speeder for the cost of not being able to squadron.

A regular speeder with a cyclone missle launcher (not twinlinked) costs more points than this thing does. I'd take it any day.

hmm, i don't get it. why should that speeder be better and cheaper then the one normally available? because it lack the ability to squadron with others? squadroning IMO is a liability, it makes it harder to find nice spots to snipe from, units with many heavy weapons will be more inclined to shoot that unit then a single speeder, all have to shoot at the same target...
am i missing something or is it just marketing?

When i saw the picture I was sort of expecting a Hunter from the epic line something to tackle all the flyers coming at this editions marines

My point is, there are plenty of SM fast attack choices that are far better than any of the speeders.
The speeders need a serious boost in the next dex if they are to become a preferred choice.
If you include FW the speeders drop even further down the pecking order.
The air defense system, attack bikes, jump troops, storm talon, caestus, etc etc. With only 3 slots to fill, the speeders are too fragile and dont bring anything to the party that other units cant do.

So your telling me that 6 heavy bolters for 180 points isnt somthing?
Or 3 deep striking multi-meltas for the same price isnt somthing?

Speeders are very good. Fragile yes, but they are one of the only ways you can take so many heavy weapons for cheap. Volume of fire isnt somthing space marines do well in most games, but having 9 speeders on the table is one way of doing so.

If you play kill team as well. 2 speeders and a scout squad is one of the best settups marines can take. The other being sternguard.

Speeders arent always gonna win you games, but they certainly arent gonna be the cause for your loss either.

Perhaps thats why i dont take them then. I never spam units in 40k as i find most of the battles i least enjoy involve spamming.
Great, 9 speeders are good, i will stick to varying my choices thanks.

I like the looks of both of these vehicles but FW prices mean these are WAY done the list of things I need to pick up.
