So I picked up my first Land Speeder for my Dark Angels army and tried it out yesterday, and this'll probably be a real simple question to answer, but how is it treated for the purposes of shooting and assaulting. Obviously since it's a vehicle attached to a squad with a stat line it's going to be different, but how?

Is it treated as a separate unit for the purposes of being shot at and assaulting. If it is a separate vehicle, does this mean it doesn't need to stay with the squad after deployment? Any help?

The Ravenwing Support Squadron is a vehicle squadron, have a look on Page 77, there are a heap of rules there that explain how it all works.

Basically it works pretty much exactly the same as any other type of squad with a few changes, 4" coherency and the ability to leave one of their number behind if it is immobilised for example.

For rules purposes, it's an entirely separate unit. It's its own target for purposes of shooting, being shot at, being assaulted, coherency, and every other purpose you can think of.

The Ravenwing Attack Squadron, Magpie, not the Ravenwing Support Squadron .

3-6 bikes, an attack bike and a land speeder can be taken as a single FOC slot (fast attack or troops depending on the HQ)
The Attack bike and speeder DA Codex pg.47
always operate as completely independent units of one model.

The bikes can combat squad into units of three each giving you 4 units from one FOC slot.

OK if it is a RW attack squad

You can leave the 6 bikes together and the attack bike and the speeder must be split off from the squad to act as two completely separate units for a total of 3 unites from one FOC choice
Or you can split the bikes into two squads of bikes plus the attack bike and speeder counting as FOUR unites for the one FOC slot

The land speeder and attack bike are seperate units. If you buy them with the bikers you have 3 units (or 4 units if there are 6 bikers, you can combat squad them in 2 units of 3) all together costs 1 fast attack/troops foc, so you have 1 unit of bikers, 1 land speeder and 1 attack bike. So your land speeder will never charge and your attack bike is lonely...
