New GW army cases with large model foam

The new Red Warhammer and Green Warhammer 40,000 army cases from GW are now available. Contrary to earlier information, these cases contain 3 trays of standard slot foam for small figures and one large block of pick-and-pull foam for vehicles and other large models. These are identical in foam content to the Blue and Grey cases released previously, but this time the cases have game system logos on them rather than the standard GW logo. These are limited quantity items.

Frankly, I'd love to have one or both of these and given the sturdiness of the shell of these cases I wouldn't have a huge problem with the high price if the latches and hinges were of equal sturdiness. However, my son has a broken latch on each of two regular GW figure cases and a broken hinge on one of his Blue army cases. The latches and hinges are definite weak spots and likely fail points on what are otherwise extremely sturdy cases, but broken hinges and latches can render these expensive cases useless. Until the quality is improved in those two areas I likely will not be buying any more GW figure cases.

I have one of the previously released cases... well, kind of. The owner of my LGS let me swap the foam from the limited release to one of the large black GW cases. Works very well.

The website is now listing the 40k case as unavailable so if you want one it looks like you'll have to try your local store. The Fantasy case still seems to be in stock however.

I need to invest in one of those for my IG. I recently moved to Boston and taking minis to the gaming store on mass transit sucks! I have a couple of the small GW cases for my troops but my tanks and Valks just have a couple open topped sports card boxes as their ride.

Just an update on my last post, both cases are back in stock on the website. Personally still trying to decide whether to go for one or not.

They are also in stores this week. My local GW store got in a shipment of these yesterday.

They're nice and all, but I'll stick with Battle Foam. :)
