View Full Version : Quick question about GW shipping...

How do?
This is kind of 40k related, as it's about an order I placed which only features 40k goods!
So, as my friends and I are getting into Rogue Trader, we've had a quick splurge on my credit card to buy out gaps in our existing BFG fleets. I have also added Codex Iyanden and Death from the Skies, as I round out my collection of books.
However, on the catalogue section of the website, the BFG stuff says 'up to 4 weeks'. The books of course, not so much.
But, my order summary shows it's all 'ships within 24 hours' which is a little confusing.
Regardless, my question is this....do GW split orders as a matter of course? It's been ages since I pre-ordered or placed an order with any kind of waiting time.

In my experience GW US is remarkably lax on shipping deadlines.

I ordered a BFG model a few weeks ago and it said delivery in up to 4 weeks, it was delivered in days. I think thats just up there because of the apparent wind down of production of the older models

Cool.
should also say 'I'm in the UK'.
Memory is hazy, but I seem to recall orders being split when I was pre-ordering stuff moons ago. Not sure if it was just because it included pre-order goodies.

Hi,
I went on a spending spree with GW UK to get all of the Epic stuff I've been meaning to get for a couple of years but hadn't due to a) laziness; and b) two kids under three. Like a lot of people, I guess, GW's decision to withdraw Specialist Games stock got me ordering in a hurry.
Anyway, having spoken at length to GW UK mail order after problems with one of my orders (which they fixed very quickly), I learnt that a lot of Specialist Games stuff is now 'cast on demand' - i.e. they won't have it in stock in the warehouse but they will cast it up for you and send it out. If it falls into this category, it can take up to 28 days.
Other items are still in stock and ship as soon as they pack them.
I don't know what the policy is about splitting orders but I think that this can lead to orders being split even if they don't normally do it. Also, I know that if you view your order confirmation (whether in the email they send you or on the GW website if you're registered) you can get some confusing information.
For example, I placed a telephone order for an Ork Landa and two Battle Fortresses just as they went out of stock on the site and vanished forever. The mail order bloke confirmed the order and said it would be done as cast-on-demand. But while my email confirmation said that the order was placed and that I had been charged, each item was listed on the email as being discontinued and unavailable, and the shipping times were listed oddly as well.
So I think that, thanks to the Specialist Games stuff being withdrawn, the GW confirmation emails do not always have up to date information on the shipping times and/or availability of some Specialist Games models. That doesn't mean your order didn't go through or isn't shipping but the site can tell you things are out of stock when they're not and/or give you odd times for shipping.
The good news is that I did receive an update email when each order shipped and that did give accurate information on what was in each order and the estimated arrival.
Sorry for the wall of text, if in doubt call them up - they've always been very helpful with me. TBH, I think they were so busy with people ordering Tau or Eldar that they were pleased to be able to talk about something else...
