so....$58 for an ADL? Seems pricey.

...and people claim GW kits are overcosted.
At $30-32 (maybe even $35) I'd get one without even thinking twice. At $58 I'll rather convert the spare GW kit I've already got.

I was just saying I wish I could donate to support Chapterhouse, but I don't play GW games anymore. This is a perfect opportunity to support them.

I was abou to commit to the second level until I saw the price and decided to pass. Seems a tad pricey kick-starter-wise...

Regarding Price Complaints: They're probably covering their butts just in case possible stretch goal give-aways get out of hand... Also, remember that resin is quite a bit more expensive than the injection molding plastic that GW uses.

HAHAHAHAHHA what are 'Space Elves'? Oh we're not using GW terms so freely anymore, hey?

Oh Come on, come up with your own ideas rather than leeching other peoples. You've obviously got a bit of talent, stop copying GW's ideas and do your own thing.

Isn't kickstarter for proper new start ups?

Novel idea. I think you could do with some work on your videos. The intro video should probably have some background music (you can find free, copyright-free, music online from various places) and voice over describing the product, concept, materials, potential stretch-goals, and KS-reward levels.
The second video is all of 46 seconds of content long, but goes on for three and a half minutes so Thunderstruck can end. At the very least I'd say chop the end off, but really the video is a series of stills so you'd probably be better off uploading them as images so people don't have to pause the video to examine the bits. It would also mean the images would show up in google search results.
Cheers, and good luck!
The eldar one looks like it might be okay, but damn are they all pricey.
And thinking about it - why does this need a kickstarter? The moulds for resin aren't exactly hard or expensive to make. This is really just free advertising and free capital for CHS.

Well, there's an alternative already being put into production by Mr. Dandy: http://www.mrdandy.com/wargamma-linked-barricades/
Six different styles each with a quad gun themed appropriately.

No real talent for creating our own, original designs, so let's just ride the 30 years of design work from another company.

Which company are you referring to? Obviously you must work for the Empire...or would you like me to point out with examples just how "original" the Empire is. Of course, you could just read the court findings, which obviously felt differently, instead of spewing the company line. Very few items today are not built on the back of earlier designs.

Really? 'The Empire'? I hope to god you are being sarcastic.
I don't mind the Space Elf shield thingies, nice idea but the line you can get on eBay is nicer and much less expensive.

Does that kit include clear resin shields, weapon choices and shipping for $58? I looked at it and it seems the weapons are another 13 sterling and its all grey resin.

Yes. But that grey resin, once painted will match the army style and feel
I can't see anywhere in the Entire Eldar line that has transparent forcefields. Your confusing the Eldar with Gungans again....
Your guns are far nicer than whats out there elsewhere though. Consdiered a lower pledge level jsut for a gun?

It's true it is just resin, but it's really nice and as DrLove says you can paint it. I'm not trying to be critical of your product here, it's nice and the resin force field idea is a good idea. It's just that it is quite a bit more expensive than the alternative.
I second DrLoves request for a gun only option though.:)

LOL I liked the gungan shielding.. one of the better points from that movie.

No offense taken, I think it was important to note the differences in product and details, need to compare apples to apples..
Separating the weapons may come into play later in the kickstarter. It will for certain be available from the online store once the products are added in a few months

Chapterhouse - can you explain how this is anything other than a marketing stunt?
There are no up-front costs you have to cover. No lengthy and involved design and development process, as GW did all that and you're just piggy backing. "Designing the Terrain - This is already done, the designs have been created and are ready to be printed." So we know you've already done the tiny amount of actual work already, so what is the crowd sourcing for? The office Jacuzzi? You've got the 'designs', just shapeways them up and start moulding.

In the last Eldar Codex, force fields were the fluff reason given to War Walkers not being open-topped. Also in Dawn of War 2 Eldar force fields were often littered around the map. Thats all I can think of.

Yale, you've never seen the enormous costs of things like the 3d printing, casting, etc, have you?
Nick: You need better renders, it'd be easier to get the punters to punt with a better looking view - the solidworks/wings3d style render just doesn't sell it as well as it could.

Only in a minor way. But still, for three grand I'd want the masters to arrive signed by Elvis.

I have never pledged on kick starter, will these be available to buy afterwards or only if you have made a pledge ? I like the tau and Eldar ones.

Most Kickstarters are there to get initial funds available for a project and the public release comes after that (some release immediately and some only after they have met the obligations to their pledgers)
I'm pretty sure these will be available for public purchase pretty quickly after the Kickstarter has been finished and he starts production to fill the pledges (if I had to guess public purchase will be a month or two after close of project)

Well Yale, at least you admit your ignorance there, and I can respect the hell out of that :)
Basically though, the printing can be a fair bit expensive, especially since you need to have everything set to the higher/highest settings - which takes a while and the longer you tie up the machine for, the more you pay. Plus the more material you use, the more you pay.
The molds will run you a fairly decent amount, and then you only get (depending on the materials involved) 40-70 pulls per mold before you either have to throw it away, or, in the case of Forgeworld, use it anyway despite not putting out a recognisable product (yes, still bitter over the lack of quality from my Bloodthirster...)
And then with a kickstarter, the artists normally don't get paid until the end, so in there you're likely seeing the sculptor's fees as well.
Tag on taxes (the US gov't takes a stupid amount because of how they calculate kickstarter moneys as a "gift" and CHS is stateside), and that out of that say $3k initial, you also have to pay for the products the people have bought with their pledges out of that...
That's why the numbers blow out to $3k so fast.
Why do I know this? Because I worked with Col Gravis/Rob on his kickstarter that I posted a while back.
I'm all for CHS doing this (although I personally think the price is a bit steep.. sorry Nick, but that's my opinion!), it's just so long as they don't pull a Mantic and KS every little damned thing, that's where I see the system abuse coming in.

I wanted to show the revised designs for the Space Elf Shield Walls as well as the Dark Space Elf Walls. As you can see we removed the skulls from the Dark Space Elf terrain as well as made sure that the models would have line-of-sight over the walls themselves.

I also wanted to let you all know that at the end of the Kickstarter that anyone who pledged for the terrain sets will be given the option to purchase additional weapon mounts for their terrain.
Thanks!

Totally off topic asside:
Are you using Sketchup to make those? That's awesome! I love that program. I mostly goof with it to make Star Wars models, though (see here (http://th09.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2011/057/1/4/star_wars_mandalorian_basilisk_by_necron2_0-d3ahwvc.jpg)).
