I note the posting includes "brass rod." You'd certainly need one to hold something like that up.

Lord, the thought of pinning that thing together ... just makes my head hurt.

I remember when I first got into the hobby in the late 90's, a fella who I knew from the local GW store bought one through the old (and much missed I might add) Citadel Journal. We all crowded around on the day it turned up at the store - he lifted the lid of the wooden presentation box it came in, took one look, and closed it again. I still see him now and then, and he still hasn't touched it.

Its easy to see them just as an investment, not a model to use.

Its asking to be recast and then kept as an investment...

Sooooo much want. I'm seriously considering selling organs to get this. Perhaps even some of my own!

And nuts to everyone thinking of buying it as investment! If I buy it, I will paint and assemble it and play games with it, just like it was intended for when it was cast!

I know a guy has i believe 2 of them. He bought the "Chapter Deal" way back when GW offered it and has the entire Ultramarine chapter. Came with every marine in every company with the special characters vehicles and i think it was two thunder hawks. Even back then it was like 5grand but i think it was worth it. Looked stunning

It's like a very old bottle of wine. Nobody will ever open it and just buy and sell it as an investment.

It does look very nice though.

they arn,t worth more than about $650. i picked one up 12 years ago, and they havn,t increased in value since. theyretailed for close to $1000 originally. i'll be watching this closely cause ifnit sells for 2500 pounds then i have hope for actually making something from mine.

They retailed originally at four hundred pounds.

(Which is 40,000 Pence)

the exchange rate at that time was much worse than it is today, cause i remember pricing one out as around $1000 with shipping. 40,000 pence is a cool price....

just a funny thing i thought of - we gamers often complain about the markup....

i read that the weight of the old lead thunderhawk was around 5 Kg,
and the current price of lead is about £1.50 a Kilo
which means the value of lead in the model is about £7.50
when the lead thunderhawk came out it was probably a lot cheaper price of lead so lets say £5 of lead
They made 500 of them
500 units at £5 of lead per model -> £2500 of Lead
They sold them for £400 a piece
500 units sold at £400 a piece -> £200000 income
so
200000 - 2500 => £197500 profit?
but that £197500 is not profit because who knows how long it took or how many people were involved in the process of designing, make the original model, make the moulds and then manufacturing, packing etc.

do you guys think they broke even on it? they must have...right?
does anybody know how many people they had working on this? or for how long? I'm kinda curious about how much money they made....

/k

Don't forget that it wasn't just designers, but also the tool setters the guys who made the casts. The cost of transport of the materials into the factory and back out again. The cost of the electricity and water, the HR department, the purchasing and goods recievables, the chain of what's involved is staggering. Then there is also the tax paid to both the government and local government, it all mounts up quite spectacularly

Didn't they only make 400 of them?
