I've had these old Battletech/macros figures lying around for ages and after a debate with someone about if mechs are the same size as knights I've decided to try some converting and finding it fairly simple.

The toys are held together by screws, which made them easy to disassemble. I've removed the missle rack and searchlight, but have thought about putting the searchlight back on. With a little bit of card and putty then paiting I may have a usuable knight.

Thoughts?

I think its an awesome idea, I think it will need alot of work cause it looks too modern and not that Grimdark. It needs some sort of head.

Stick some banners and Aquilas on it, and some dark paint, and it'll look a whole lot more grimdark. Though I do agree, some form of head would be appropriate. Most titans have some form of protruding cockpit.

It'd also be cool to put it on a base, with one leg standing on something, say a crushed CSM Rhino (if you have the parts/platicard skills, of course).

You will probably want to change the cockpit a least a little, because right now it looks like it's smiling at me...

I was just considering the irony of that being a "Warhammer" from BattleTech. 70-75Tons, 2 PPCs, 2 SRM6s, and some small number of lasers, I believe. heh..I'm old!

The original Japanese name (from the Macross TV series - I'm old too) was the "Tomahawk".

A tomahawk also a kind of warhammer, if you think about it.

The omens are good.

I've got the main construction done and started painted. I extended the body up from the "hips" a little which let me take the legs off and re-attach them a bit more spread out. I've also done some putty work to the head which hopefully with paint will make it look more "mechanis-y".
Oh, and I've re-done the close combat arm. Hopefully it will look good painted. I want it done by weeks end for an apolcolypse game (that I probably won't be making it too anyway, but oh well)

Just a couple of quicky pics before I'm forced off the computer. Showing the scale and the basic colors selected.

(ugh, flickr is pissing me off right now)

Anyway, I really am hoping to get it playable-painted by tomorrow.

You know, I wasn't really digging the chainsword arm at first, but after painting it's grown on me...

Personally I'm not sure that it literally needs a "head," I think they work for Titans, but they always looked silly to me on knights, they are too small. At best maybe replace the current cockpit with something that looks like a fixed position cockpit that stylistically resembles a helmet hunkered down into the shoulders, like on MK IV Dreadnaughts.

Tack on some aquilas and some cog & skull emblems and maybe bulk out the arms and legs with some pistons and other hydraulics to give it that pseudo-steampunk thing we have going on in the grimdark, and it will look perfect...

I may have to re-do some of the green areas, it depends how it looks on the tabletop.
The chainsword arm isn't the same one I started with, it's a complete re-do but ends up looking OK here.
Thank you BoLS for providing the decals for the ol' Mechanicus skull.
Not sure where I'd put banners for later, unless I hang one off the main cannon.
Hopefully, I'll be able to field it this Saturday.
