40K Chaos: Newbie building a plague army

This thread can die.


Just getting into the game. I have never painted models before but I have done an art minor in college. So, I am starting up a Warhammer 40K army. CSM, daemons and Orks look really cool. I am starting with the CSM and then probably branching out to 1 or both of the others.... this could get expensive. ha.

Here are some picks of my 1st Plague rhino that I put together last weekend. I did a bunch of green stuff work basically just to check it out, work with it, get some experience with it. Not sure if I went overboard or if its just right... thoughts? Should I build a couple more like this for my plague marines? I have been painting a unit of plagues and a regular unit over the past 2 weeks. Still a ways to go this summer!

both paint and sculpting looks crisp and clear... for nurgle anyway :)

the best thing to do, as far as progression is to pick a theme, beyond nurgle.... are the the death guard patiently carrying the multitudinous blessings of grandfather nurgleth? or are they a fallen chapter, if so do they have a certain aspect of pappa nurgle that they have been blessed with.... bloated bodies, necrotic armour, bestial forms or just VD (LOL no would that be slaanesh :P or a combo of the two hahahaha).

having the theme will tie your coming force together and make paintingmore focussed and less erratic.

other than those suggestions, if you have large armour sections like tanks, a bit of liquid polycement and a spare sprue cutting works wonders on making rotting/ed armour, you just put the poly where you want the damage and let it work its magic... meanwhile dip your sprue in the pot (or apply to the end of sprue if you use a needle point pot) and let it melt a bit.
then simply working the polycement together you can create rather disturbing 'pulls' and welts in the plates, much cheaper and easier than using greenstuff.

Mini challenge yes. Posting error on my part however. Failed to see that an admin had to approve the post before it showed up (I guess since I am new). I figured it bombed out so I did a 2nd one, and both were approved. Check out this one, I was going to go with that as it was my original. I have some more pics in that thread as well.
