View Full Version : I love this sub forum.

Started this as a new thread rather than bung it as part of the OT Thread.

But yeah, I love the oubliette. It's everything an interwebular community should be.

It's friendly, open, often silly, often serious. Few subjects are taboo to its contributors, and the important mature discussions are treated accordingly.

I get a genuine happy buzz from you guys, whether you're a long term oubliette babbler, or someone joining in for the first time.

We're a healthy mix of backgrounds and opinions, and it shows in the respect we each show in our comments.

We're also kind of self policing, in a good way. When someone drops into one of the serious threads and just spouts nonsense, they get called/challenged, but without it spilling over into other threads either down here, in the dark, or on the main boards.

I love you guys! (I'd insert a picture of Sloth out The Goonies, but don't know how to do that on my iPhone.

Love and hugs to all!

Yep, it's why I keep coming back. It's practically a utopian forum compared to what else is out there on the internet. Even the heated debates rarely descend into personal insults.

Though I have to say I've been avoiding most of the forum except the Oubliette...and the few times I venture back into the regular forums I end up regretting it. :)

Yes, I have to say that the Oubliette is a community of like-minded individuals that spends more time not discussing wargames than it does. I like the randomosity and that you can disagree with one person vehemently on one thread and agree with them on another without it being awkward.

The general level of conversation is very British.

I'd imagine the colonials are under the impression in order to post here you need to be wearing a top hat, monocle, and gently sipping Earl Grey from a china cup, with posh pinky.

And they'd be correct.

Of course Old boy. How else would we establish the correct tone and the development of the conversation. One does experience odd looks for wearing a monocle at work, but tis always worth it

This thread has put me in something of a quandary. Whilst we are right to celebrate the generally pleasant environment we have created down here, such self-aggrandising behaviour is most definitely un-British. That sort of vulgar behaviour is to be expected from those brash colonial types, which is why we exiled them, but we British pride ourselves (in a very modest way) on our self-deprecating approach to life. Should I take pride in my involvement in the Oubliette, or by embarrassed at my fellow Brits blowing their own trumpets?

I do have to say that the Oubliette has evolved over two+ years into its own fine civilized sub-culture in a splendid way. I distinctly remember thinking no one would ever come down here and I was wasting my time when I was creating all the original sub-forums.

It's actually a really well written cartoon, I have seen my fair share of Peppa Pig and I am sure it's not totally aimed at kids. Daddy pigs constantly making a fool of himself and Mummy's there to pick up the mess. Ben and Holly's magical Kingdom is another good one by the same peeps.
