Not sure i'm believing it...when did we invade Brazil? or Japan?

That's what i thought, but apparently we've invaded 90% of countries if you include incursion and privateers...

Brazil, is strange perhaps in attempts to colonise south america? Certainly as it is a portugues colony and the british and portugues alliance would make that a little strange.

Japan was occupied as part of the peace treaty and VJ stuff.

If they do that I might buy it, but I wasn't overly impressed with GTA the last time I played it (which may have been San Andreas). Not bad, just nothing remarkable. I prefer Saints Row, such a brilliant parody of GTA and video games in general.

I love it, I didn't think the super powers broke anything except in the sense that they were supposed to as everything gets more over the top as you progress. also until you unlock stamina free super sprint cars are still best for long distance travel, which was an issue someone raised earlier. Plus the missions are hilarious, as are the romances:

Could be that they don't want people to be able to wait a short while and just buy the DVD rather than having to pay for a subscription and then buy the DVD later. Also got to put together all the extras and get them printed/marketed/shipped etc. Also probably comes out not long before season 4 starts to get the hype machine re-started.

Well there is the concern that he is not writting quick enough. True Blood (which everyone should watch despite the main character being annoying) had similiar issues that the tv series was going quicker.

The other issue is that Martin seems to have no idea of how to bring this to a conclusion, new characters are introduced to bring the story along, instead of moving forwards we just have their history and how they fit in and very little forward momentum.

I am going for an outside bet that the series ends with bran waking up from his fall and it all being a dream...

Mr Mystery

Interesting....Lloyds selling off it's shares has netted a bit of a profit for the UK Tax Payer. Kind of.

When bailed out, they cost us 73.6p each, and were sold for 75p each. Net profit for Tax Payer £61,000,000. Though as this article (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24124793) points out, it's not technically profit, based on speculative stuffs. Though hey, it's not a loss!

Rest of the article is worth a read too.

Though of course Mr Osborne is claiming it's all his doing and shows his genius. Yep. Apparently selling something for more than you bought it for is now genius. God I hate that man.

And now back to GTA V.....

Main thing that will make or break this for me....the Radio Stations.

San Andreas had really good ones, with decent rock music. GTA IV had what felt like 90,000,000 Hip Hop stations, and one Rock station which although it did have Sisters of Mercy (nice!), also had Phil Collins (boo!). This meant I did most of the missions in silence, and enjoyed the game a lot less.

But what of this one? Can't find a track listing online at the mo.

radio stations are really good, we had them playing last night in the store, I really enjoyed them.

It's not just that, I've always found GTA a little dull personally. Saints Row just has a lot more style, wit and cleverness. The fact you can make a female character and do incredibly bad arse things is important but the style of game itself appeals to me more.

I agree that SR3 has a stronger story, the strength of SR4 is that it's basically a Matrix parody meets Mass Effect parody meets GTA parody. The story is disjointed because it takes place in a simulation and revolves around rescuing your friends then taking over the simulation to get at the creators of it. But it's so amusing and clever the disjointed story doesn't matter. Plus it has Vice President Keith David voiced by Keith David.

My favourite mindight launch I worked was the PS3.

Two slightly drunk guys got int he queue for an hour and were disgusted with it cos it cost £425 when they got the front of the queue. Turns out they thought they were queueing for some new nightclub....

Also this;

Fox news advocates Video Game Registry and Control, not Gun Registry.

My favourite part must be the top comment from the public

An argument could be made that there's been a significant increase in the number of mass shootings since the launch of the Fox News Channel. Is there a link between Fox News and gun violence? Perhaps instead of monitoring video game players, we should monitor Fox News viewers

Just need to not use my overdraft, at all, this month and it's looking good.

Also, nip into my local bank branch on Friday (day off!) and discuss these charges they're applying. £92 this month! Now fair enough, I am triggering them, and they aren't unfair in the eyes of the law, but they aren't helping. Will discuss the possibility of having them postponed for a couple of months, or maybe wiped (banks are pretty flexible when you're honest with them.)

These bills down, it's time to tackle the duel threat of overdue council tax (eep) and a very, very old unpaid Orange Mobile Phone bill, which has been playing merry havoc on my credit rating, which I'm also trying to fix.

The issue is the parents. Having children should be a privilege and not a right. If you are unable to care and look after them you should not have them. It is that simple. I would not expect the state to support me if I had any other thing that I could not afford. So why are children so special. It is not like we have an under population and a chronic shortage of labour.

I do not have an issue with feeding children. However, it should be the responsibility of the parent and not the state.
I am not entirely convinced that I would want any child of mine to be fed by the person who successfully gets the lowest bid of a government contract. Where the price of ethical farming is irrelevant to maximising profit. I am able to choose what what food I like, and to choose where to source it from. I can put together a balanced menu across the day ensuring that I get my five-a-day enough calories.

I can see the point and reason for free meals for those from poor economic back grounds, but do children of parents with a combined income of £50k+ need this? Probably not, especially given that the government has already removed benefits for those cases.

Of course it's a disorder. You're talking about creating a generation of sociopaths with attachment difficulties and a lack of empathy

But those situations are only a dysfunctional in a society where the are not the norm. Disorders are deviations from the accepted norms which create difficulties functioning in society. If society maintains that norm then it is not a disorder. For example a person who is deeply uncomfortable maintaining eye contact in social situations has a disorder by the standards of Anglo-European society, but is considered polite in traditional Hmong society where eye contact is seen as threatening or challenging behavior.
And they'll have a large and varied social group with whom they form and develop strong bond in the form of their peers, they're not going to be socially isolated or reared by people who dislike them, they're going to be socially integrated and reared by the collective who will show an appropriate level of affection.
Or beat them with sticks.
Whatever works.

They are sociopaths. They are concerned solely with themselves, and everyone else is less than furniture.
Some of them will be, most of them are just selfish which isn't the same. Even the selfish ones will not necessarily want to harm someone else.

Sociopaths don't want to harm people either....they just don't understand emotions in the way others do, which leads to inappropriate behaviours.

Stout (2005) sums up the research on sociopathic development, explaining that as much as 50% percent of the cause of sociopathy can be attributed to heritability, while the remaining percentage is a confusing and not-yet-understood mixture of environmental factors. (Notably, a history of childhood abuse among sociopaths is not always present.) Similarly, Ferguson (2010) conducted a meta-analysis and found that 56% of the variance in Antisocial Personality Disorder, the formal disorder of sociopathy, can be explained through genetic influences.

Interestingly the more the society concentrates on the rights of the individual and the concept of "success = privilege or wealth" the higher the trend of sociopathic behavior, whereas societies where the individual is subservient to the collective have lower prevailences. (I don't have a citation for this one, I just remember it from somewhere)

That's psychopaths (and also higher function autistic and aspergers[spelled wrong] sufferers).
The sociopath is manipulative, and often driven by rage to harm. It's sociopaths that torture animals etc, not psychopaths.
Psychopaths CAN also be dangerous, but their prevalence towards harming others is lower.

It's not just sociopathic behaviour though, can't remember everything the studies found but children raised without a loving parents had much higher risk of personality disorders and all kinds of other psychological nastiness. I'm simplifying it by boiling it down to 'it would create sociopaths', but I don't think there is much doubt it would create a generation of truly ****ed up people with severely impaired abilities to empathise and work with others.

Not to mention there is no way the state is competent enough to manage it.:p

Same with psychopaths.
They learn to mimic and adapt, or to hide their mal-adjusted behaviors.

As a side-note to Eldargal's comments I'm looking at a lot of studies that say that all children need is emotional responsiveness and a loving environment, containing both genders. The evidence that says that this HAS to be in the form of parents seems to be coming from studies and publications that have spurious scientific objectiveness at best.
So provided that children are raised with love and care by a representative gender spread of the collective I see no reason why they should not grow up well adjusted.
Had I the budget and enough people I'd give this experiment a try.

Well you'd basically be providing surrogate parents, and to maintain the standard of care required would be almost impossible and horrendously expensive. If it weren't orphanages would be great places.

Kaptain Badrukk
09-19-2013, 07:36 AM
I'm not suggesting surrogate parents, but since everyone is responsible for the raising of children in the platovian model there should always be an adequate level of care mandated and maintained by the collective.
TBH it'd probably be preferable to the horrific breeder clans you get in england anyway, with half a dozen or more unsupervised kids ignored by their deadbeat parents.

I find that sort of thing fairly tedious. Games like Just Cause 2 do it much better, running round blowing stuff up has a purpose and rewards you. unstructured chaos is just a waste of effort. plus random destruction makes no sense for either Michael or Franklin. Each to their own I guess, me I'm really enjoying GTA V and judging by the reviews so are many others.
So much to see and do, the sandbox is truly massive. It's easily bigger than sky rim and the scenery is amazing. The story is actually really good, I love the connections between the 3 very different characters and how their back story's link them together. The side missions are hugely varied and your able to tackle them in a variety of ways. Today I took a cable car to the top of the huge mountain and rode my bike down from the top using the many varied roads. Ended up then racing some guys in dune buggies before heading back to Michael's home. Saved some guy from being blown up by gas leak on the way, and used my in game mobile to make some money on the stock market. Then bought myself a new set of clothes and infiltrated the games version of Facebook headquarters. Won't spoil the rest but this game is fantastic. So much variation and freedom to choose what you want to do, play tennis, round of golf or dive for treasure. No game comes close to GTAV in terms of scale or choice.

They just find any excuse to justify making the same old tedious ****. Why bother trying to include a female character when you could do something completely radical like a white guy or a black guy stereotype. Oh 'it doesn't match the story you want to tell' right, because what the world really needs is another story about some guys who are also criminals, that's NEVER been done before.

I do, Ant man is awesome, and his story is needed to advance the avengers plot. The next Avengers film is based on the Age of Ultron and you can't have that without 1st telling Ant mans story.

Forgetting the Avengers movie, he is a founding member of the Avengers too and far more important a character than Black Widow.

With Henry Pimms abilities and multiple personalities it's got the chance to be a great movie. Especially if they introduce his girlfriend "wasp" and he uses his giant man abilities too. Don't go knocking Antman, without him you don't really have the proper Avengers.

Antman isn't b-grade, he is integral to the marvel universe. Especially when your talking about the Avengers too. His intellect easily surpasses that of Tony Stark or Reed Richards. Oh and he is quite humorous at times too.

The movie is being directed by Edgar Wright of Shaun of the dead and various other cool movies.

So have Ant Man in an Avengers film. But before we get Black Widow, who has been in two films already, we get Ant Man, black Panther, The Guardians of the Galxy and th Inhumans. Because apparently all those stories are more important than having an extremely popular female superheroine get her own film. It's institutional sexism, pure and simple. There is just less value and importance placed on telling a story about a woman. They can make up excuses but the fact remains there is no excuse, the story demands nothing, they are the ones creating the story.

Rubbish, go back over your marvel universe wiki and see how important a character Henry Pimm is. Without him in canon you don't have The Avengers and you don't have the Age of Ultron. Well I broke my no spending rule and my new Within Temptation cd arrived today. The Q-Music Sessions, it is a cover albumn to celebrate the last 15 years of the band. Very happy with it :)

Lead vocalist Sharon den Adel stated that: "Our approach was to really make the cover a new Within Temptation song. So not going the easy way by using only a piano or an acoustic guitar for example, but really trying to put all the elements of a Within Temptation track in this new version. It was quite a challenge because we had only one week to get it right, while recording an original Within Temptation song can sometimes takes up half a year! But this pressure also gave us an creative boost and it was very rewarding to get it done in time each week. Also, we learned a lot from the in-depth analysis we needed to make on these hits, written by others, in combination with implementing our own sound and style in each new cover. We are glad that we’ve taken up this challenge and are very proud of the result."

It isn't rubbish, we get male lead film after male lead film simply because male stories are valued more highly. Maybe Ant Man is needed, so what? He could be introduced in the Avengers. If he is so important to the Avengers why wasn't he in phase 1? Because they wrote a story that didn't require him. Likewise they could easily fit in one or two female lead films in phase 2 but they aren't, because they would rather tell stories about men with a few token women thrown in. It's just ****ing nonsense.

Marvel are trying very hard to have continuity within their movies, so they all connect in the marvel universe. Sorry EG but as much as Black Widow is an awesome character she isn't that important in the grand scheme of things. Again I suggest you look up Gamora and Wasp both of whom are in upcoming movies (wasp I hope is anyway). They are both strong female characters I'm sure you can enjoy.

She's not important because they wrote a bunch of male characters to be more important than her, hence my point. She could be written to be important if they wanted to. They don't, because of institutional sexism that permeated Hollywood and the comic book industry. They make make characters integral and female characters optional. They choose to do this, as I said the stories don't demand anything, the writers create the stories. Marvel are doing a lot well and are miles ahead of DC but that just really highlights how bad DC is because we still have no prospect of having a female lead film from Marvel. Women made up 40% of the Avengers audience, spending around half a billion dollars on the film largely because of how bad arse Black Widow was in the trailers, but Marvel still ignores that market in favour of producing more stuff about men.

Look at it this way, we will have:
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3
Thor
Captain America
Ant Man
Guardians of the Galaxy
Dr Strange
Inhumans
Thor 2
Captain America 2

All with male leads that are apparently absolutely vital to the plot leading into Avengers and Avengers 2. But apparently there are no female superheroes important enough to the Marvel universe to justify them getting their own film. We are also supposed to believe that not ONE of these stories could have been swapped with a female superheroine without fatally compromising the MCU. That is bull****.

I'm going to throw my hat into the ring on this one. EG, whilst I agree they could have done a female avenger they have serious limitations. Not the least of which is that Black Widow is their only established one and she's;
a)A bit boring
b)played by a mediocre(at best) actress who i doubt could sustain a main role in a film

Now Wasp is an integral character to the avengers, key to the character of Antman, and if they do her even half the credit she deserves (given Wright's treatment of female characters in his films that's likely) she will be EXACTLY as important in the Antman movie as Antman himself.

Should we have a superheroine film from the Avengers pantheon? YES.
Should it be black widow? NO.
So who can Disney use without intruding on other people's IP?
We're left with;
MS Marvel (X-Man crossover but best logical choice)
Scarlet Witch (X-Man crossover but a good choice)
Mantis (wholly deserving of a film but a total unknown compared to the "Big Four")
Tigra (TnA abomonation, but recognisable)
SheHulk (She's got potential, but needs introducing in a hulk film which as we know have major issues)
The rest are either members of an already filmed superteam like X-Men of FF (not Disney) ,just awful an no-one's heard of them (much like about 60% of the male avengers in fairness), or they're the female equivalent of another character E.G."spider woman" belonging to a different film company.

Don't get me wrong, I WANT superheroine movies, and MS Marvel is top of my list, but when it comes to strong marvel women that people will recognise Disney don't own the rights to any.

Black widow didn't even really need to be in the avengers, if you look back at the film can anyone think of a point of the plot that she was integral, where another character couldn't have filled that role ? I can't. Look there are plenty of very strong females in the the Marvel universe that would make great films (She-hulk or Ms marvel spring to mind) but I don't want the story's altered or changed just to shoe horn a female character in. What I'm saying is yes a marvel film centred around a female would be great but not at the expense of other very importing characters who are importing to the plot of the marvel universe. You mentioned Black Panther earlier and surely you can appreciate a movie about him is another step forward for marvel ? And again I will throw Gamora at you. She is pretty amazing and far more important to the Guardians than Black Widow is to the Avengers.

they are not very important characters, they are just characters. comics change and restart all the time, none of the male characters you have mentioned are integral. if ant man were essential he would have been in the first film. as it is, the marvel film universe has the Avengers formed without him. as such he is not essential for phase two, the avengers already exist.
