I thought they wanted spiky marines + what with them being 10k veterens and all that...
Mr Mystery
09-03-2013, 05:46 AM
I'm not sure they know what they want. Other than the moon on a spiky stick. Or that thing they don't have. They want that. And then when they have it, they'll change their mind, and demand it be taken away and replaced with the thing it replaced. So they can whine about that too.
I mean, Mutilators are considered poor??? Seriously? REALLY? 2 wound Terminator equivalents, with a handy variety of HTH weapons on offer? Why are they poor? Oh. They can't assault after deepstrike. Just like everyone else. Barring Blood Angels, and even then I think that's limited to a single unit type.
Though I should now offer genuine apologies to Eldargal. Eldargal. You were right. Eldar players are not the whiniest. It is indeed Chaos players.

I think that there is a rationale for CSM having access to all of the SM armoury, perhaps there is some divide between the vetrans of the long war not having access to post heresey weapons.
The trouble is, and this is a problem that BA, SW and DA (and previously BT) have is that these chapters need to have access to the SM weaponry but they need to be sufficently different to make people want to play them, which commonly means that they are codex space marine + fancy new extras. Now if this is the case then why would anyone want to play normal marines when they can play normal marines with fancy (optional) extras.

Mutilators are considered poor because for the same points you can buy an Obliterator.
Who is exactly that same in every way, except he always has a power fist and doens't have to swap it out to a new weapon every turn, but also has a wide array of heavy weaponary.
I play Chaos, and feel its a decent codex. people just whinge about a few things.

Turns out drinking half a bottle of red wine and half a bottle of 60% alcohol gin by accident at lunch makes Eldargal a bit crazy. Also a bit hungover. That would be me, apparently, hiding the water I was given to drink like it was some kind of game and ending up dehydrated. I also apparently sent a lot of PMs here on BoLs I have little memory of so going through the sent folder is going to be fun.

Gota PDF on my work computer
Still got Powerfists!
Although Mutilators are a bit cheaper, and are Elites not Heavy...so there is a slight difference between them. Also mutilators get a pair so get +1 Attack.
But if you've got the option and points, a Obliterator is better. Always good in combat, has a wide array of guns

Yesterday's WTF moment during a brief interlude in a 11.5 hour 700 mile drive back home from the extended weekend:
Sitting in a Denny's (and don't we all have WTF moments in Denny's at some point?) when a tatted-up dude sits down in the booth next to ours.
While waiting for either our food to arrive, or the sun to spark it's last nuclear gasp (it took almost that long) I had what seemed like an ice age to peruse this guy's ridiculous amount of neck and head tattoos. One geometric oddity kept me going "huh..." during the long wait.
Until...*click* it hit me.
The idiot had a stylized swastika tattoo on. his. neck.

Little Chef serving staff, the slowest moving objects on earth.
I'm guessing this guy is using it for it's most recent usage.
Unfortunately this modern usage has led to the older historical uses becoming shyied away from. At one point it was a preferred representation of a cross so people would have it as a grave marker, those sites have (largely) been vandalised as people think that it is relating to their view on race...

Watching a programme about clockwork automata and that on BBC4.
And it's strengthened my utter disdain for clock/steampunk even further. When you see the sheer genius of the development of clockwork and steampower, you begin to realise just how lazy a trope clock/steampunk is. Whilst when done well, it's really quite good, all too often it's used as a fall back for those without the wit to write proper sci-fi, as in sci-fi which predicts new technologies. And worse, for my money it detracts and cheapens the astounding achievements made. I mean, take a gander at this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwX7T7JqsDo
Utterly beautiful. Amazing craftsmanship. To me, the very definition of genius artifice. It's unique in the world, and simply stunning.
Then some berk comes along and invents steampunk, without ever really bothering with the limitations of steam and clockwork.... Cheapens it. Reduces the achievement.
Bah!

As I gazed into its big beautiful eyes, I did for a split second feel maybe eating animals was wrong. Then I thought fu*k it, I was born to eat meat and especially steak.

Princess Diana Biopic declared massive steaming turd of a film by everyone but the Daily Express non-shocker! (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23985665)
Also, just watched the new Robocop trailer.... I'm intrigued. I make no statement about the possible quality of the finished product, but the trailer does have my interest. They've managed to make OCP seem even more manipulative, as apparently, they've installed software into Robocop to give the illusion of freewill. It's a different take on things, and so far, I approve, even if it doesn't quite work out in the end. Far better than 'well, that was pointless. You just put different fx into it'

As opposed to everyone else at the time who made trillions selling landmines to children......
See this sort of thing (not you or your comment in particular) really grinds me gears.
Like when people said 'Jade Goody may have been a racist, violent moron, but hey, she ensured her kids would be looked after once she'd passed on. She was a great mother'.
NO. NO SHE WAS NOT. She was simply an adequate mother. She did what society kind of hopes a mother would do, namely love and nuture their kids, and provide for their future....
Though that of course has to be weighed up against the horror the kids will face when they see just what sort of a vile, pig ignorant scumbag their Mum was.....

I think that there is a difference between teaching values and teaching values.
I think schools should instill values, or a culture but not necessarily teach it. That is it is a community and people conform to an expectation. For instance, holding doors for one another, being polite, punctual listening and respecting other people. These can all be taught from school, but cruicailly from any other form of social interaction.
Teachers are not loco parentis

comparing last years CSM issue to this ones SM issue, its kinda sad, gone are the long articles, blanchitsu and the "kit bash" has become flavour of the month again as opposed to "hey this is awesome"

No, though I did find a pickaxe the other day and I found I could convert all of my iron ore to gold ore, though I am not sure how to make ignots, maybe need to level up my smithing.
Also collecting every random flower, mushroom, butterfly and mushing them all up together in alchmey. After another failed potion the shop owner said to me "I think you should leave now", she was right.

Oh, and quite possibly the most odious little weasel in Westminster, William Hague, claims that the US and UK are aligned on Syria (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24012244).
Apart from the fact, you know, we're keeping out of this one in terms of fisticuffs.

US acting against Assad is unfortunately equivalent to US acting with Al-Qaeda which I am not sure the US really want to do ideologically speaking.

Bit old and that (http://www.theguardian.com/media/2007/feb/12/advertising.food) but a well written article desconstructing that insufferable bint's mental claims.
Seriously. The bit about chlorophyll...genius. Her nonsense is akin to tribal beliefs that eating the heart of an Ox makes you stronger and so on.

In the same guise I think medics should stop calling themselves doctor, unless they actually have a doctorate, not just a bachelor of medicine.

Oh dear, this would have been better if they had not mentioned methane in your gut. It is actually a rarity to have the right cultures in your gut to produce methane, indeed it is as much as 1 in 10, better would have been hydrogen which is universal, and far more explosive than methane.

You're not allowed to call yourself a Dr in the UK unless you have a UK recognised Doctorate?
Unless of course you're The Doctor. In which case you do what you bloody well please. And usually with an attractive young lady in tow!

I thought they could call themselves a doctor after finishing their medical training but not necessarily doing post-graduate stuff?
Edit: M.D. gets you the doctor title, but you can practise medicine prior to that with the Bachelor of Medicine and call yourself a doctor? That's what I was told anyway, lot of the proper Doctors at university were miffed about it.

One university society I was a member of has an annual dinner and dance, over the last 10 years there has been a huge row between the medics and the proper doctors about who was allowed to be called Dr on the seating plans.
One extreme year someone tipexed out the Drs from the medics, another year someone added any other honorifics they could think of, (a large number of the past members hold honarary titles).
Last year, the only titles that were used were Mr, Mrs, Revd. and then letters after names were used.

Yup, she's a fraud.
One thing that bugs me is how even people who know I have a doctorate still call me Miss or Ms when they always call male staff by their appropriate title. Really pisses me off. That's the only time I insist on people using the title apart from putting medical doctors in their place.

A chap the other night was wearing a T-shirt that had something like "Tardis Transport: For when a parcel must arrive before it was sent".
I like the German system whereby you reference each title, so if you had two doctorates you would be referred to as "Doctor Doctor Jones"

Nope, like I said I don't insist on it except under certain circumstances which don't come up on BoLS. Such as a professional setting where it is relevant, when someone is being uppity or if someone asks 'Miss or Mrs' because **** having my honorific depend on my relationship to a man.
