Post came (hur) still no Saints Row IV Grr. Also, to rub salt in the wound, an imported copy a friend in Australia bought from America arrived already. So US-Australia is faster than ****ing Royal Mail or whatever Amazon Ewe Kay use. Though he still can't play it 'cos it's Steam locked until the Australian release date in like two weeks and mine should be here before then.
In other news, yesterday I stabbed myself in the nose with a butter knife by accident, this morning I accidentally punted one of my kittens across the room and he is kind of cranky with me despite the fact he tripped me up AND then managed to run in front of my foot as I did some weird kick thing to not fall over and squish the little murderous barstud.

Just because you don't like it, it does not make it bad. There is a reason it is called POP Punk, because it is popular.
Your musical ignorance astounds me. I would like to think that I am a fairly open minded person, and when someone is so closed and closeted like that it annoys me.
Seriously, the older style of music is dwindling, it's getting old and evolving into what it is today. Appreciate the new and old. Don't hate on people for what they like.

Yep, Bella is just an atrocious character. Buffy was excellent and as you say a woman who was strong and decisive not a 'guy with breasts' that a lot of that sort of character really are. Not only that she was surrounded by a lot of equally well developed character. Like Xander, who was surrounded by girls who were all a lot stronger and more powerful than him but wasn't overpowered by it and found his own way to contribute.

Harry Potter and the Millennials: Research Methods and the Politics of the Muggle Generation (John Hopkins University Press, 2013) reveals that readers of the seven-book series and viewers of the movie franchise tend be more open to diversity; politically tolerant; less authoritarian; less likely to support the use of deadly force or torture; more politically active; and are more likely to have a negative view of the Bush administration.

God has a sense of humour, anti-vaccination megachurch struck by measles outbreak:
Measles outbreak tied to Texas megachurch sickens 21 (http://www.nbcnews.com/health/measles-outbreak-tied-texas-megachurch-sickens-21-8C11009315)
An outbreak of measles tied to a Texas megachurch where ministers have questioned vaccination has sickened at least 21 people, including a 4-month-old infant -- and it’s expected to grow, state and federal health officials said.
“There’s likely a lot more susceptible people,” said Dr. Jane Seward, the deputy director for the viral diseases division at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Sixteen people -- nine children and seven adults -- ranging in age from 4 months to 44 years had come down with the highly contagious virus in Tarrant County, Texas, as of Monday. Another five cases are part of the outbreak in nearby Denton County.
All of the cases are linked to the Eagle Mountain International Church in Newark, Texas, where a visitor who’d traveled to Indonesia became infected with measles – and then returned to the U.S., spreading it to the largely unvaccinated church community, said Russell Jones, the Texas state epidemiologist.
“We have a pocket of people that weren’t immunized,” said Jones, noting that vaccination rates typically hover above the 98 percent range in his county.

God has a sense of humour, anti-vaccination megachurch struck by measles outbreak:
I think he has, he drops churches on them as well from time to time.
It really does amuse me such people because they seem to pigeon hole God, surely the invention of a cure/immunisation is enough of an intervention.
It is like the old Joke:
John, who was in financial difficulty, walked into a church and started to pray. ''Listen God,'' John said. ''I know I haven't been perfect but I really need to win the lottery. I don't have a lot of money. Please help me out.'' He left the church, a week went by, and he hadn't won the lottery, so he walked into a synagogue. ''Come on, God,'' he said. ''I really need this money. My mom needs surgery and I have bills to pay. Please let me win the lottery.'' He left the synagogue, a week went by, and he didn't win the lottery. So, he went to a mosque and started to pray again. ''You're starting to disappoint me, God,'' he said. ''I've prayed and prayed. If you just let me win the lottery, I'll be a better person. I don't have to win the jackpot, just enough to get me out of debt. I'll give some to charity, even. Just let me win the lottery.'' John thought this did it, so he got up and walked outside.
The clouds opened up and a booming voice said, ''John, buy a ****ing lottery ticket.''
Sometimes you need to meet him half-way

So the chap who invented the giant foam finger glove thing is deeply outraged at the way Miley Cyrus used it:
She took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it. If I had a choice between Julie Andrews singing 'The Sound of Music' and Miley Cyrus doing 'Can't Stop,' I'd go the Julie Andrews route. Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident.
You know society is on the brink of collapse when purveyors of foam fingers are expressing moral outrage at their use.

So the chap who invented the giant foam finger glove thing is deeply outraged at the way Miley Cyrus used it:
the fact drunk people wave them around, I would be amazed if there was something someone hadn't done with a foam finger, they are hardly a symbol of honour.

****ING Bollocking ****bags of ****
I'm now beyond stressed. As if moving wasn't expensive enough, between van hire, legal fees, deposits and all the rest, our current landlord is insisting we pay the full month rent on our current flat, despite only the fact we will only be living in it for 4 days. We move on the 4th, and as our contract doesn't expire till the 28th, they're insisting on a full months rent (another 600-700 pounds).
The worst part is they're claiming they're only doing this as "a months notice (its been 2) is not long enough to get new tennants in on that date, and so they'd be losing money
So the cost of moving has now hit 2K. Minimum
Psychosplodge
09-02-2013, 04:18 AM
If they do that, insist on access till the end of the month, as in send someone round with the keys and if they've changed the locks kick off...
DrLove42
09-02-2013, 04:43 AM
Still hoping that a month is long enough for them to find someone to move in. Its a nice flat
My only concern is they've bumped the price up for the next tennant to what I think is unreasonable money for it, so that'll put a lot of people off
Psychosplodge
09-02-2013, 04:44 AM
Surely once your contracts up it doesn't matter?
DrLove42
09-02-2013, 04:50 AM
Won't bother me at all. But someones got to move in eventually. If they move in during that empty month i'm not paying the full price for it
Mr Mystery
09-02-2013, 05:24 AM
Not sure they can do that...
Check the terms of your tenancy for your notice period. If you've given the correct period, you've given the correct period and they can whistle. If they get the arse, rent tribunal, which means you won't have to pay until it's resolved.
But yeah, as said, you pay for the month, it's yours for the month, whether or not they have someone ready to move in.
Wolfshade
09-02-2013, 05:30 AM
If you can prove that you gave your contractual notice then you are laughing. I had a landlord not give me back my deposite because they hadn't got a new tenant. I suggested that it wasn't my issue and that if he wanted to I would see what the small claims court suggested. I had my deposit back within 3 working days.
As for staying to the end of the month I think that that might be a contractual issue so no leyway unless the landlord is cool.
DrLove42
09-02-2013, 05:44 AM
Yeah, as its less than a month we leave it vacant theres not much can be done.
They're also suggesting getting the deposit back could take between 2 and 6 weeks.
Mr Mystery
09-02-2013, 05:54 AM
Sounds about right for the deposit. Most landlords now pay it into a 3rd party thing, to keep it safe for all concerned. That of course adds admin time to returning it.
And in other news....does anyone else just kind of ignore advertising for the most part?
Psychosplodge
09-02-2013, 05:58 AM

Mr Mystery
09-02-2013, 02:16 PM
Yup.
Sadly, this stuff isn't taught in schools anymore. Far as I'm aware, at the ripe old age of 33, I was amongst the last batch of secondary school kids to be taught home economics.
Really should be brought back, along with stuff like how to wire a plug. Yes we are a service driven economy now, but I do wish the Right Wing would shush about 'immigrunts taking ur jurbs' in plumbing and that when the curriculum prevents our youth from learning such things at a young age.
Not everyone is academically inclined, and the current plan just dumps them on the scrapheap from too young an age. Which is yet another thing people whine on and on about.

Final top tips, cook/prepare large portions and freeze them...
Mr Mystery
09-02-2013, 02:45 PM
All good and valid tips.
And given many are taught by TV these days, rather than parents, it is worth putting it up once in a while. For instance, I know that one from Mumsie Mystery, who'd cook up a big batch of plain mince, and then divvy it up into portions for the week. Defrost, reheat, turn into whatever mince based dish you fancy from there.
Wolfshade
09-02-2013, 03:02 PM
My biggest compaint is that if you are on a budget then you couldn't really afford the initial splash out of £14 for the brisket to begin with.
Mr Mystery
09-02-2013, 03:06 PM
I guess. But then there's budgets and there's budgets.
For instance, although currently quite skint (bill bombed), I can still wrangle impressive value out of a free range, organic chicken by making it stretch to 5 meals, including a one man Sunday roast. Key is the bulking ingredients being kept cheap. Like couscous. It can of course be done cheaper if you literally can't afford to eat as ethically as I try to, and for those who can't I pass no judgement. You family naturally comes first.
But doesn't have to be brisket. Cheaper cuts are usually far tastier when cooked properly. For instance, Oxtail in a stew. Ridiculously cheap cut of meat, but so much flavour!
Wolfshade
09-02-2013, 03:14 PM

Interesting development is interesting. And having spent some time on the minimum wage, for companies posting healthy profits, highly overdue (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-23934721). Because whilst every company is entitled to turn a profit, paying your employees nuts all to help with just isn't fair.
Wolfshade
09-02-2013, 03:42 PM
I thought raising the minimum wage is a good thing, but I now don't.
Consider a service company employs 100 people, and the government raises minimum wage by 10%.
Now this must mean that costs increase by 10%.
The company to retain it's same level of profitabiltiy needs to do one of the two things:
a) Increase cost by 10% (risking losing market share)
b) Reduce costs by shedding 10% of the workforce and increase the work load on the remaining 90%
I would imagine that a company wouldn't want to increase its costs as it might reduce it's market share (unless it is GW) so you are left by loosing 10% of people.
The other thing to continue is that if you increase minimum wage by 10% then you give people an extra 10% to spend, conseuqently you increase inflation and as normal the inflation will rises prices above the price range.
This sort of thing happens whenever there is a pay rise across a large section of employment.
Despite my cyniscism I do think that there is too much of a pay gap between the bottom and the top.

Somewhere I found an article that explained that for a given industry, if the minimum wage is more than roughly 50% of the average income of workers, then it starts becoming significantly counter-productive because companies are forced to fire workers to cut costs to afford to pay their remaining workers. I'll have to look for it again.

I think the solution is not increase the minimum wage, but increase the amount of tax free allowance you get.

Also worse film ever is movie 43 I think it is called, why it exists is beyond my recogning.
Tax-free allowance increase I think is good, but should only be on earned income :)
Happy Tuesday all, new route into work is definately not road bike friendly, crossing two fords and gravel roads. Worryingly strava tells me that I have the 9th quickest time across the off road section...

Had two motorbikes go past me. One undertook me (in my lane) and one overtook me. I was in the outside lane. Its no wonder people on motorbikes get into accidents when some drive like that!

Talking of the ladies in media...I recently found out about a film franchise based on a Marvel series I've never heard of
Guardians of the Galaxy
Is Written by 40K's Dan Abnett (least the comic was)
Is starring Zoe Saldana (Uhura in newest Star Treks), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond. HOORAY), John C Reilly and Bradley Cooper as a Racoon.
Sounding pretty good to me!
