So far, able to make a single chicken carcass last 5 days, thanks to couscous.

Good thing about couscous is that it's vesatile.

Also invest in Polenta (if I can find any) and that and I should be about nice. Can easily feed myself on £10 a week!

Ha I once went, 8 hours straight without eating anything. Nearly killed me.

And so thoughts turn to first date with the delightful Natalie.

She's coming round mine this weekend, then due to daughter won't be free until 3rd August....and wants to go to Brighton Gay Pride. Which I'm all for on account Brighton is awesome, and with the passing of the Marriage Law today, it should be a mega day!

Trying to pick a restaurant......and I'll be booking a Taxi home (cheaper than train or a room!)

Hmmmmmm.

Not at all. It does sound a bit dodgy, but when the, erm, junior partner is 23, I don't think it matters in the least. By that point, most people are properly into adulthood.

And I had to flash my driver license at work to prove I really am 33....

Mr Mystery

Indeed.

Whilst some are genuinely attracted to young children (there are people on the UK sex offenders register voluntarily, who have never touched a kid in their life, but feel attracted, and 'nuff respect for that), it takes a particularly twisted mind to try to justify their actions....

To be honest, it's not something I'm comfortable talking about. Despite not being a parent, and not really wanting to be, it makes me seriously angry.

And more about choochoopuffs (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23353962)

Looks dead snazzy! And best of all, being built here in Britain. Which makes a chance. I know protectionism isn't all it's cracked up to be, but I'm a firm believer Government money should be spent here as much as possible. And not, you know, having stuff made outside the UK. Or using a French company for instance.

But I'm confused.....why exactly are we the Tax Payer coughing up for this when it's a privately run, but government subsidised train service?

Can we just nationalise it and be done already? Even the Tories are grumbling that way, which really says something! :p

Psychosplodge
07-18-2013, 04:58 AM
don't the train companies rent them from the not for profit government rail company?

I've just wasted the morning trying to install XP on a motherboard that's apparently compatible until you ring tech support ¬_¬

Wolfshade
07-18-2013, 05:00 AM
If it isn't a steamy I don't care.

Perhaps it is subsidised because if it were totally private then the train fairs would cause no one to pay for it. So the road network would suffer for it, so it actually helps the roads if less people use it so use some of their money (notionally) is moved into trains.

Mr Mystery
07-18-2013, 05:33 AM
Makes me wonder how much of the train companies profits are down to the subsidies paid out.

I really don't like the concept of a private company running public transport. It's not there to be a cashcow, it's there to allow us to move about, both commuting and on jollies.

As covered before, I don't think there's many people could switch to working in London with the trainfares so ridiculously high! And given the frankly pee poor service provided (animals have better transportation rights!) they're taking the mick!

Psychosplodge
07-18-2013, 05:44 AM

Basically Modernist architects wrapped up cheap concrete buildings in a lot of bollocks about it being democratic architecture for a new ge and inflicted it upon an unsuspecting and undeserving populace. It still happens today but with concrete replaced with steel and glass and cheap replaced with expensive. Meanwhile the architects themselves live in 18th century chateaux in Switzerland.

Also (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-23342297) some good news for an unsigned band.

However, it does beg the question of why a not-for-proft Radio station with no advertising actually needs a playlist, and what purpose said playlist serves, when the station rose to prominence for allowing it's DJ's to do their job, and let loose with music they thought was ace.

Bohemian Rhapsody? Kenny Everett. He pinched a demo copy from the studio, and played it several times, in full, on his show. The rest is history.

John Peel? Need I say more? Oh, okay briefly....people sent in demo tapes. He listened to each and every single one. Stuff he liked, he played. He is responsible for the big break of so many bands!

Now? Drivel. Drivel drivel drivel.

Sounds like one for the Pseudoscience thread!

Along with bizarre claims about humans not being designed to eat meat, only vegan stuff. Typically involved claims about our teeth, and not being able to bite through a cow's skin. Without mentioning the hundreds of thousands of years of evolution around tools meaning that as we haven't needed to, they've effectively atrophied.....

DarkLink
07-18-2013, 03:02 PM
What's doubly ironic is that our digestive system is extremely good at digesting meat, but we can't digest cellulose so we get virtually no caloric benefit from vegetables. We can't directly digest legumes, grains contain proteins that not only are difficult to digest, but actively prevent other nutrients from being absorbed (gluten is the most damaging and infamous one, but there are a whole range of others). Really, we are pretty clearly designed to base our diet primarily around meat, with fruits, nuts and vegetables to supplement it.

Even better, the outcome of the Zimmerman case is proof the Freemasons have been slowly conquering the USA since its inception.

Franklin Roosevelt was an unwitting freemason by virtue of his actions in World War II, dragging the US into a war that was largely idealistic in background. As the war neared its end, Roosevelt suddenly fell ill and was replaced by a new, powerful mason named Harry Truman (http://www.pagrandlodge.org/mlam/presidents/truman.html). Truman dropped the newest Masonic Weaponry upon Japan, securing America’s role as the new armchair empire for freemasonry. The lunatic Hitler wrote a scribe that tried to tie freemasonry into Judaism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Protocols_of_the_Elders_of_Zion), claiming that the belief system was a front for world domination. What Hitler missed in his blinded rage and scapegoating is that freemasonry goes beyond creed, edict or religious belief. It is about one thing: capital, in the form of power and control.

Week 8 of 12 on my 'extra awesome adjudicator' course thing. Lots of meetings, so likely relatively little work will be done. Which suits me.

Need to buy a few bits and bobs for LRP at the end of August, including a new sleeping bag, gas for the stove, tinned brekkie foods, and there's something else.... Oh yeah, train tickets there and back! Otherwise, I'm all set!

It is the parents responsibility, nobody elses. But the fact they keep talking about the legal stuff in with the illegal is wrong.
It's more the sort of nannying I'd expect from comrade milliband and his merry men, not the party that's supposedly about individual responsibility.
But it's merely the thin end of the wedge.

Kirsten

yup, start with something people probably wont oppose, like porn, then they have an entry point to start banning other things.

I hear China and North Korea also filter the internet for the protection of the people.

Surely, it is the responsibility of the parents to parent?
There are already a myriad of software that enables you to block certain sites or filter based on your own preferences so why should the majority of internet users have to put up with this?
It should be opt-in rather than opt-out.

I certainly have no issue with the idea of blocking unlawful content, but I imagine finding such imagry is actually non-trivial given the pressures on search engines to not list such results and on those "communities" requirement to stay hidden and anonymous so as to not be picked up by whatever the local law enforcement is for having illegal images.

So spake the Fiend, and with necessity,
The tyrant's plea, excused his devilish deeds.

eldargal

Very disturbed with the way they were conflating legal pornography with illegal images. What will the definition of pornography be as well, they vary. What about erotica which isn't pornography but still features naked people? Who decides in cases where it is borderline or will everything just be blocked with no distinction?

Regardless, on the basis of a dubious claim that pornography damages adolescents we are going to introduce blanket, opt-out bans on something that is perfectly legal rather than expecting parents to actually do their ****ing jobs. Because we know they don't, but no politician is going to come out and tell them to shut the **** up and get their act together if they have a problem with porn, we'll just censor the internet and interfere with peoples access to legal materials.

Psychosplodge

I believe Iran also filters the internet for the peoples sake.

As you say, illegal content is not casually available as a rule. Not that it matters in my guaranteed red area, but the tories have just become unvotable. Suddenly I feel disenfranchised (generally only the main three run with it being guaranteed a red win.)

Boy racers cause severe injury (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-23402944). But from reading that, unlikely to be held responsible for the accident itself.

Why?

BMW pulled out into their path. Speeding? Perhaps. But have to prove that. And even if you can, they'll get done for that, but fault still lies with BMW. Boy racers were established on the road, and a hazard there to be seen.

This means the victims injuries will likely be paid out for from the BMW's insurer.

I haven't ironed anything for years. just wear clothes and the creases come out before too long. a friend of mine at school used to turn up with shirts ironed by a family friend. this friend always folded his shirts the same way you get them in a packet and then ironed them, so he had creases all over as though he had just taken the shirt out of a new pack.

I love Steam summer sales, I bought:
Plants vs Zombies
X-Com
Star Wars The Force Unleashed
Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion
Mark of the Ninja (overrated)
Endless Space
Expeditions: Conquistadors. This is my favourite, how often do you get a game which lets you play a female conquistador AND gives you an Achievement called 'Feminist' when you hire an all-female group of conquistadors to adventure with. It's also very fun to play, sort of a combination of Heroes of Might and Magic and Diablo.

I loved the latest xcom, shame about the lack of different personalities though, such a simple thing to do, but everybody has the same voice...

loved Mark of the Ninja too, I thought that was fantastic

Personally I bought
Ys: Oath in Felghana
System Shock 2
Sniper Ghost Warrior 2
Legacy of Kain: Defiance
Psychonauts
Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword
for a total of about £15...

Flat tyre this morning so once again in a silly metal box and I'm going to be grumpy about it. I don't know how you guys do it all the time it is so boring and it seems that simple ideas like indicators, lane discipline and stopping distances are something completely unknown. Plus you get weird looks steping out of a car in lycra.

There is a traffic light controlled island on top of the motorway junction I get on (when in car not bike obvs) and it has clear road markings, the signs leading to it tell you what lane you need for which exit, the destination of each lane is painted on the road, the lanes spiral you out to the correct exit, in fact once you get on you just need to worry about stopping at the give way lines and staying between the white lines. But no. That is far too simple, people instead try and cross lanes on it and go straight one and all kinds of other crap.
Then the motorway itself, how hard is it to keep left unless overtaking? Or to leave a sensible gap between the car infront and yourself.

I dispair.

What is worse I need to convince the wife that I need to spend £125 on equipment and accessories for my bike

I am guessing that is a realtively simple process for you:

Step 1. Pick up 2ps (all of them)
Step 2. Walk to destination
Step 3. Profit

Enthusiasm for Expeditions: conquistadors has cooled somewhat, getting a lot of CTDs. 'verified the integrity of the game cache' and it did find a missing file so hoping that fixes it, going to try XCOM though. Also beat Plants vs Zombies. Yay for being lazy.

How much does £100 of 2ps weigh?

Wolfshade
07-24-2013, 02:15 AM
The stated mass of a 2p coin is 7.12g now there will be some fluctuation within that but I think it is a good average and there are 5,000 2p in £100.

7.12 x 5,000 = 35,600g (or 8.4762 Jubs (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/06/22/reg_standards_vid/))

I usually end up with a cultural victory.

Science takes too long, Diplomatic is almost as long winded and requires befriending city states, Military you can do at any time

I can put 500-600 in savings a month. Thats either going to be a great FW army or a lot of holidays....
