Yesterday, two of my friends where playing IG vs. Nids, and I got called in to make an objective ruling.
The IG-player has a tanksquadron of two tanks, and got shot at.
The tanks where placed so the first one obscured the other one by far more than 50%.
The nid-player shot and scored three hits.
The IG-player said that he took two hits on the tank that was obscured by the front tank, and so claimed to have coversave. And the last hit on the front tank (that was obscuring the back tank).
We couldn't find anything about that matter in the Bible (the rulebook), nor the Codex.
Was he -and I- wrong, or where we right?

The squadron rules actually do address this, though most people (including myself) overlook it for a while. Vehicle squadrons receive cover saves just like any other multiple-model unit. What this means is:
If an individual vehicle in the squadron is obscured by 50% or more from the firer's point of view, it is Obscured.
If 50% or more of the vehicles in the squadron are Obscured, the entire squadron receives a 4+ cover save.
If less than 50% of the vehicles in the squadron are Obscured, no model in the squadron receives a 4+ cover save - even the individual vehicles that are Obscured.
So in the example you give, you have a two-squadron vehicle. One vehicle is Obscured, and the other vehicle is not. That means 50% of the squadron is Obscured, and so the entire squadron receives a 4+ cover save.
So if the squadron took three hits, the IG player would have to allocate two to one vehicle and one to the other vehicle - but both vehicles would receive a 4+ cover save.
EDIT: Re-reading your post, I'm not clear on the situation. If the one squadron member was obscuring the other, probably neither of them would be Obscured. Remember that, as the squadron rules specify, squadron members are transparent for purposes of determining whether individual squadron members are Obscured or not. In other words, squadron members cannot obscure each other.

I believe that you are correct...no member of the squad can obscure another, so no cover.:p

Right, just like any other unit, models within the unit are ignored when determining cover saves, at least in this instance.

This is specifically mentioned on page 64, top right, middle of the second paragraph.
