Armies you love and hate to play

40k is meant to be a game of fun but unfortunatle yhtere are some armies that peopel find very boring to play with. fgor me I hate playing hordes of necorn warriors, the slow march just kills me.
A green tide is an army i enough playing with though Ork shooting generally makes any game fun IMO.

Is there any type of army that you enjoy using regardless of how good or bad it is

I really did not enjoy my necron army...I hope the new codex makes them more fun. I also did not like playing Codex Marines in the last edition.

I always love playing my guard though...mechanized, static gun line, tank company...I love it all.

I'm a guard player and I love to see ANY marine force across the table, and any mobs of boyz army is almost always a good time.

The only boring army I've played to date was blood angels drop pod DS army, it was KP and he ending up keeping everything in reserve intill turns 4 and 5 - just plain boring.

I really did not enjoy my necron army...I hope the new codex makes them more fun. I also did not like playing Codex Marines in the last edition.


I quite enjoyed my CC necron army, flayed ones, pariahs, wraiths and scarabs. its something you dont expect from necrons

Pure assault and pure gun line armies. But that's more of a player basis thing than any specific codex.

Well I love playing my all Sisters Army because my opponents mostly think they are easy beat T3 S3s but after a few turns of Ret shooting, Divine Guidance & other Acts of Faith they usually end up respecting my Girls greatly.

I also like my Guard Army as it is very "fluffy" Caiphus Cain & the 597th Valhallans. I even have a special rule for Jurgen-- Miasma gives any enemy within 6" -1 to L/Ship ( with my opponents permission of course!)
Caiphus has Paranoia which used to be his Trademark under the old Codex but now gives him + 1S & 1Initive if assaulted. (Again with opponents approval but most like the Fluff!)

Finally my Black Templars cause I like the Crusaders idea & they play soooo differently to any other Marine Army.

As far as not liking any Armies to play against I guess 'Nids would be the one I dont like much but bring on the Orks, Tau, Neccies, Chaos etc. :)

IMO its the armies that have a bit of fluff that are the most enjoyable as the story that goes along with the army helps makes the battl;e fun.

I have various characters in my armies that have their own story and when i'm using that character, i can remember past deeds and add to them

As for styles, I generally enjoy armeis that prefer CC though i dont enjoy my tyranid vanguard army so much as it munches through MEQs though I havent used it in 5th edition

Sisters of Battle. Acts of Faith can be so wicked in changing the situation, and the plethora of melta and flame weapons is just so much fun. The Dark Eldar. High mobility so I can get in their face as quickly as possible, and start the close combat slaughter.

I love playing Grey Knights, but hate how weak their rules are compared to pretty much every other codex (other than Necrons).

I love to play against horde armies, especially the ones that want to rush into close combat and kick your head in. It's a ton of fun to have a tidal wave of Gaunts or Boyz charging your lines while you frantically fire as many shots as possible into them so you can hope to counter-assault.

The armies I dislike playing against are the highly mobile shooting ones like the Eldar, Tau and certain Guard lists. Armies that don't actually want to fight (i.e., armies that refuse to engage you in close combat unless they have a massive advantage) and would prefer to spend the game running away piss me off.

When it comes to the armies I like actually controlling myself, I like really quick and deadly assault armies. Gunlines bore me - I like to get in my opponent's face and kick their *****, hence playing both Blood Angels and Daemons.

My favorite to play against id say is either my friends Tyranids where we always have very close games or my other friends Orks back in 4th where our games tended to end in a draw because everything was dead. had moments where I was yelling "waaaaagh!" and he was the one playing Orks and I was playing IG! Wish that jerk played more these days... :mad:

I would love playing against grey kngihts had I ever gotton the chance. both me and my my friend have some grey knights but they suck that much that they are never used

I hate,hate,hate playing nids (especaly when opponent cheats!) its just sooooooooo boring cant shoot, oh theres the venomcannon spam 0h cant assault theres 3 fexs, lictor, broodlord, and lotsa points tyrant+ guard! love fighting marines, tau and necrons ( monolith+ warsythe= pain!)

love playing my blood angels and attached exrocists it all foucuses on 1 rhino with a teleport homer!
and i want to try out radicial DH no attachments!

i'd quite enjoy a horde versus horde game, orks vs tyranids or something. both armies have similar tactics and it generally boils down to who gets the charge.

I'd ahve to agree with people that necrons are quite boring to play with and against although i think mass destroyers vs Saim hein would be gd

Well i have yet to play against all armies, but i really dislike playing my buddies Tau. Especially if he gets first turn... my tanks have to hide in fear if we are playing him.

I do enjoy playing against chaos though. I have not played the lash list yet, my group plays more for fun that competition.. but against chaos i have my best luck.

Stick them in a Land Raider and make sure they get the assault, and they do pretty well. Once you learn how to play them, they can do ok, but all their fights will be uphill battles. There is never an easy victory for the Grey Knights.

I love playing Orks. Most people who play Orks have a great sense of humour. One time a local ork player told me that I couldn't shoot at him becasue his orks were immune to bolts... great fun.

looking down the barrel of the Tau gun line is a true pain. i'd like to give them a try though.

i like my Undivided Chaos force (still growing) keeping the balance between assault and shooting or just going full either way. i'm looking forward to playing my Drop pod force of Red Scorpions, even if the Forge World rules are not allowed.

I love playing my Orks. Despite everything they're just damn fun to play (same goes for my Skaven).

I hate going up against really poorly put together armies, it just feels awkward to stomp on them with my fun list and I prefer having a challenge, even in a casual game.

No worries, you can only afford 5 or 10 guys in your armylist anyways:D /jk

Actually, I usually only have a squad of Terminators and two GK squads, and you can create enough variation between those five models that you won't have too many repeats.


I have to say that I hate playing Necrons. The game just goes like this: Ok, I shoot/assault you a bunch. You make every single WBB, and pass every single leadership test*, so I never get to sweeping advance you, and then you teleport out of combat and rapid-fire me. Repeat.

It doesn't really matter if I ultimately win or not, it just isn't fun playing against Necrons.

*true story, I've never seen the only Necron player I know fail a leadership test with his necrons. Ever.

This doesn't quite fit the question, but it's the only response I have...

I love the idea of Apocalypse and Apocalypse armies, but hate that 9.8 out of 10 players use the expansion to have a vehicle and war machine only battle.

This is the #1 reason why I have not gotten into Apocalypse. I want to play a war on a massive scale, not take part in a silly demolition derby.

40K Demolition Derby (the vehicle rules can actually support this) HAHA... There's a spin off game for you to design BoLS... You can take that one to the bank, just be sure to thank me.

Agree with you there, i play to play and have fun, to show off my 10k SoB army.
I dont like Apoc games where your opponent just takes super heavies or titans, i play with close to 200+ miniatures, ok i own 1 Baneblade and 1 SoB Baneblade, but id never play with both of them ever, and i rarely use even one.
I love playing with massed infantry and some tanks ofcourse, but why does everyone HAVE to own a titan??

Other than tha i only hate it when people use "count as" or play with unpainted or just undercoated armies with no intention to paint them... seriously at least give it a try painting.

My fav is IG vs. Nids, i just always get The Whiskey Outpost scene from Starship Troopers in my head. Just the idea of that whole valley crawling, the bugs climbing over their dead to get to the troops inside it just screams Nids

I really enjoy playing eldar for the simple reason that they move across the field so elegantly. I can coordinate my plans in a way that looks really cool:D Imperial Guard however I ahte. all i can see them doing is shouting orders at eachother while dying. No offence to any IG players out there but I find them VERY boring.

I hate playing against Marines, most of them are just too easy to kill cause they spend too many points on their HQ (and elites) and they lack real substance in their army.

Same here, my whole gaming group has a necron army, we all have many different ones, but each has a necron one and we love playing against and with them! Hell, later this year we'ere taking it to epic with war in heaven themed armies.

My favorite armies are my Sisters and Iron Hands. I love my Sisters because they were my first army. When I take them out I remember alot of history and pride when I painted them and took them to various tournaments to play. I like my Iron Hands since they were the first army I converted and made into a unique chapter ( tell me how many Iron hands armies you have played!). My only wish is that the rules for my Iron Hands were a bit better ( wish they had their original rules !) and also that the Sisters might see a rewrite soon to fix a few subpar units.

I like facing a wide variety of opponents but dislike Chaos lash, Marine or Eldar special character combo, Big Bugs and Tau ( in no particular order ). Necrons and some guard list can be a bit boring but also can be fun sometimes too. I guess for me its less about the army and more about the person playing it that determines a fun gaming experience.

I dislike playing agaisn't marine armies cause I play them so often. I really like playing agaisn't necrons cause they are the least played army at my store.

The only army I hate, is the one I never manage to come even close to beating. It doesnt matter what I take, what the terain is, what the mission is, I genrally lose and lose bad. My plans tend to fail and my dice just dont seem it roll so well.

That army is Eldar, not DE as I can get a good game with them, but normal Eldar. I hate them, hate them, hate them!
