I just got off the phone with GW Baltimore and was told that subscriptions are not being released until the last Saturday of the month. Here it is the third of November and I still don't have my copy. And GW will NOT send a copy if i don't receive mine until Saturday, November 7th What good is a monthly magazine that comes in a week late. My FLGS already has them on the shelf. GW went on to say that most businesses here in North America will receive their copies first. So my Question is "Is the subscription to White Dwarf worth having?" my opinion is not anymore.

Not for some seven or so years, no.

I learned about this change in White Dwarf release timing several weeks ago. Here's one reason why they made this change.
You know how a few months ago there were pictures of some cool model previews from various international non-English language White Dwarf issues leaked onto the forums before most people had their own copies in the US, UK, etc.? Well, GW decided that they'd prefer it if everyone around the globe got their issues of WD at nearly the same time to prevent that sort of thing happening again.

yeah, i'm in the same boat. having a subscription come in a week later than the stores really defeats the purpose in my mind. this is really a turn off for anyone wanting to get/renew a WD subscription (why would you want to do that currently? beats me). personally, i'm just not happy about this. the first time my issue arrived late, i thought it got lost in the mail again :p
@ brass scorpion: that still doesn't explain why my issue arrives a week late. if it arrived at the same time as the retailers, then i wouldn't mind, and the problem would be avoided. then again, i don't know a helluva lot about shipping. it just seems to me that i'm being inconvenienced (the opposite of the purpose of a subscription in the first place) so GW can keep its exclusiveness.
oh well, it won't be a problem for too much longer as i'm definitely not renewing my WD subscription until the quality of the catalog goes up.

We're all in the same boat. I am also still waiting to get my latest issue of White Dwarf, and as you might suspect, I'm not any happier about the change than anyone else affected by it.
Here's another tidbit of info that helps explain the new disparity between delivery of store subscriptions and home subscriptions. It used to be that both were delivered in the US by the USPS. Now, the store subscriptions are delivered in a bundle at once by UPS while the home subscriptions are still delivered by the USPS of course.

Yet another reason to think really hard about whether I want to renew my subscription or not.

I will probably allow mine to run out too. I have loved some of the painting articles. The Space Hulk edition is invaluable to me, and there were some great articles on painting faces, etc. But my issues are consistently coming 3-4 weeks after I see them on shelves, if at all. I have had to call 3 times this year to get them to send me my issue because it never came. If I already know if there is an article worth having in the magazine 3 weeks before I get mine, what is the sense? Some times I just throw it on the shelf when it comes because I have already read the issue, or seen that there is nothing in it that interests me. I would say 1 in 3 magazines are worth owning for me. The "subscriber only" models have been junk too. The one model I have wanted was a Space marine Veteran that was only available in the UK I guess. I would rather give the money to the local comic shop who carries the magazine when there are issues that are worth having.

too true! I feel the excat same way. I have found that the last "subscriber only," I have wanted was the Bonesinger... Plus your spot on about giving the money to a local game store.

What irritates me is that I'm still waiting for my new subscription to start; normally get it at the LGS but tey've been late getting there for the past few months. I started the subscription because my new job requires me to be on-call for two weeks at a time and it has been frustrating not being able to get to the store to pick up the new issues. I was also looking forward to getting the issues befor they hit the shelves but now it sounds like they'll be late; kind of frustrating is you aske me.

FH
I contemplated getting a subscription. I'm not concerned with being the 1st to have the new WD in my hands, but getting a subscription doesn't really save me any $. I concluded that it's not worth having.

Over the last year ive had so many problems getting issues that i decided to not renew also. Having a subscription is kind of pointless when you have to call them every other month to get the issues you never got.
