So, Me and my friends are finaly going back to Warhammer Fantasy. We started with Fantasy, then after a couple of years went into 40k, and now a couple of years later we are finally starting up Fantasy again, Starting this weekend infact! And I realy want a new army for Fantasy, I like my skaven but I still want a new army, A new start. and I'm thinking of Lizardmen, Ogre Kingdoms or Dark Elves. Currently leaning towards Lizardmen, But I cant deside what one to pick!

If you could tell us what you want out of an army then we could give you better advice. I will suggest you waiting on Lizards if thats the army you choose since rumors have them as getting a new book this year.

Well, I want a army that can survive being hit, Aswell as hit back hard. skaven tend to be.. Well.. Fragile, They cant take hits, And individualy they dont hit very hard, they are all about the numbers. So I want something diferent then that. I want survivability and hitting power, When I played Skaven my Hell Pit Abomination did 90% of the work while every other unit just provided a distraction to keep the HPA from being killed.. I want more useful units! XD

DE are very good at the moment, but likely to take a nerf in a number of areas when they get a new book (rumoured to be next year). OK are very much a hard hitting army without any weak choices, though you will be outnumbered and outmanoeuvred by pretty much everyone. They have an 8th ed book and are generally viewed as having one of the best of the current crop of books. Lizards get you a hard hitting army and numbers, and as ciaphas mentioned, are probably next on the list to be updated, most likely in the autumn.

If you are concerned about fragility, you may want to avoid Dark Elves. Due to small numbers of elite units, toughness 3, and not a lot of armor, they don't survive long. They have an advantage in speed for sure like all Elves, but if you can't break an enemy in the initial round, attrition will catch up with them, and the speed advantage is lost when locked in combat. I find Elves to be kind of how you view your Skaven: a few mega-units, and everyone else is there to try and tie things up until one of your mega-units has time to deal with it.

rock hard - Chaos Warriors
cons - no shooting, have to get into hand to hand.

Orks are hard units, though a bit on the random side.(leadership, anomosity, war machines etc)

Ogres are hard, though difficult to play.

Beastman are middle of the road on hardness but their book is weak.
Empire is middle of the roads.

Elves (wood, dark, high) , tomb kings all T-3 base so the survival depends on other items (spells, tricks, distractions)

Vampires are more of a swarm army.

Hmm.. I like the Dark Elf models, But I think I'm gonna go with Lizardmen, Maybe Ogre Kingdoms.. I'l have to wait a couple of months for the rumored Lizardmen book to see how they change..
