Hey Odinsgrandson, another god looking, tidy job :)

I was looking at this in the codex the other day as I'm about to strip and repaint my Eldar. Is it a layered sponging technique or something similar? And did you start dark and go lighter or the other way round?

Any tips appreciated - it's not a style I've ever tried and it'll save me a little practice time :)

Start dark and go lighter. After a few layers, intentionally leave the layers off of shaded areas as if you are highlighting normally.

Also, when you're finished with the sponge techniques, you can shade using washes and highlight any hard edges that the mini has (to bring forward the shapes on the mini- this kind of mottled scheme will threaten to obscure the shape of your mini rather like a camo pattern).

I like the effect and layered sponge is something I've been meaning to try for awhile now.

It's a shame the sculpts don't warrant the paint job. Honestly, that first one looks like he's off down the local shop to get a paper...
