I tend to be kind of a purist and don't like to include allies. Also, I don't like to include kroot or vespids. So this list only includes Tau forces.
HQ
Ethereal
Commander with drone controller, command and control node, multi-spectrum sensor suite, airbursting fragmentation projector
3 bodyguard armed identically with burst cannon, counterfire defense system and target lock. Six marker drones
ELITE
Crisis Team- 3 XV-8s armed identically with missile pod and plasma rifle. One upgraded to Shas'vre
Stealth Team - 3 XV-25s all with counterfire defense system. One upgraded to Shas'vre with shield drone.
XV-104 Riptide - Upgraded to ion cannon and early warning override.
TROOPS
5 Firewarrior teams - 2 with 6 firewarriors and 3 with 8 firewarriors.
FAST ATTACK
2 Pathfinder teams - identically configured with 6 pathfinders, 1 pathfinder upgraded to Shas'ui with shield drone and blacksun filter.
HEAVY
XV-88 Broadside Team - 2 with high yield missile pods and velocity trackers
Hammerhead - upgraded with Commander Longstrike, submunitions and blacksun filter
Skyray - upgraded with blacksun filter
Aegis defence line
The idea is this:
The Ethereal hangs with the firewarrior teams (I might change around the number of teams and how many firewarriors are in each) to provide buffs like the shooting buff and help with morale. The Aegis line guarantees cover to most of them depending on the battlefield terrain.
The Commander uses his drone controller to practically guarantee 5-6 markerlight hits on a target of his choice for the rest of the army. Most of the time he won't shoot so that the rest of his unit can provide lots of strength 5 hits with no cover on a target of their choosing since they all have target locks. They can also provide fairly effective counterfire since they have the counterfire defense system
The XV-8s are there to take out TEQ/MEQ and light armored vehicles, using markerlights from either the Commander or Pathfinders to increase their likelihood of hitting.
The Stealthsuits are there to take advantage of their infiltrate rule to put themselves in a position to hamper enemy movement with their burst cannons. Counterfire defense will also increase their chances when the enemy tries to assault.
The Riptide is there because you just have to have one if you are Tau! All kidding aside, it is a tough unit and with the early warning override should be able to take care of pesky deep striking units.
Pathfinders are intended to provide markerlight hits on secondary targets.
The Broadsides should be able to take care of any air units that show up as well as lightly armored vehicles.
The Hammerhead will focus on those tough to take out AV 14 units and switch to submunitions to take out other targets when the tough armor is dead.
The Skyray is less focused. My thought is that it will focus on the tougher air units (like Vendettas/Valkyries/Stormravens) then look for targets of opportunity. Once the seekers are used up, it can still place BS-4 markerlights.
I welcome any and all critique.
