So most of what I have ordered arrived, 4 boxes of Plague bearers, 2 Soul grinders, 2 boxes of Plague Drones and 2 Heralds of Nurgle. I also have a FW Great Unclean One to come and a few bits to order from FW next month. All in all I have the best part of 6 months worth of painting ahead. I have my new Minitaire paints ready to go and some new Series 7 brushes too.

All in it will be 1750 pts, but this is really my new painting project and I hope to be able to improve on my last project. I know it won't be the most competitive army, but I do know it will be fun to paint and play with and against.

Keep you posted :)

I'm looking forward to seeing how this army progresses as I'm planning a Chaos Daemons army with mainly Nurgle and Khorne units. :)

So at this stage they look awful right ? Base coated with grey and then highlighted white. Red and dark greens where then added to different areas as pre-shades for bruising.
Look crap but I know where I'm going.

1st top coat of the skin colour is down and the bruising and red areas are blending into the model. Still looking a bit dodgy but I have faith ;)

And here is a pic without the flash, as I get further I will dig out our SLR but for now these are what I have off my phone.

Most of the airbrushing is done, I love these models and highlighting rotten buttocks was fun.
Now for some paint brush work on the details, followed by an oil wash.

Nice clever way of painting :)
I've gone dark for my nurgle daemons with the guts etc being bright red as a spot colour.
Look forward to seeing how the army progresses though, looking good so far.

Quick update, some of the brush painting done, mainly the weapons, open wounds, eyes, mouths and teeth. I'm at the point now where I need to paint the bases and then its a coat of varnish and an oil wash. Once that's done I can then concentrate on the gore element of the models.

Satin varnish done, followed by an oil wash to grubby the little buggers up. The gore and weeping sores were next and now they are set aside awaiting me to finish the bases. I need to get some blue tac too to mask the heads off, then I intend on airbrushing the horns from bone to black. Anyway a couple of pics. One with flash and one without.

dude, wow...

That is some nice looking nurgle. I love your method, and your right, previous pictures did not look like they were going to look anything but awful.

Near final product is pretty damn amazing.

Good job!

Thanks guys, yes the pre shading is a nifty idea, but I admit not my own. I have been preshading tanks since I got my airbrush, but when I watched les on APJ doing it on flesh with multiple colours I knew I had to give it a shot. I intend on doing the bases this evening and the horns possible too, not sure on what colour the rocks should be, I did think of using red pigment over grey to create a Martian style base which could contrast well with the mini. What do you guys think ?

I think a red might be to much of a contract, and might detract from the wounds Looking at the cases just now, I instantly thought cracked and crumbly faded asphalt. Maybe city bases? faded street markings, turn arrows, stuff like that. Go with the 40k theme.

Just my idea anyway.

So more of a crumbly dark grey ? I love the street markings idea, on the larger models I could add exposed pipes underneath the asphalt, coming out of the side of the bases ? How do you feel about scrub growing out of cracks etc ?
Awesome :)

yup, crumbly dark grey, with some almost black bits. definitely need scrub and weeds in the cracks, faded yellow lane divider stripes, turn arrows, maybe even a faded blue handicap parking space icon. Larger models would need parking meters, Street Lamps, crumpled traffic cones, concrete barricades, a crushed bicycle.

One model should have a section of road with a single lonely dandelion poking out of a crack... Probably a Herald.

Whooooh there fella, lol I still want the models to fit into the 40k setting. Some of what your describing maybe a bit beyond me as well. But I will give it a shot :)

hehe Battle: Los Angeles has been on TV lately...

Still, one way to add to the creepy factor is to add a little of the familiar to it. Just imagining Plaguebearers stepping out of the Immaterial and into downtown New York, scares the crap out of me... That's the image I got when I saw your bases.
